Black Nobility and the Vatican.

The black nobility is the base of the global crime syndicate that controls this planet. The black nobility or black aristocracy are the aristocratic families that sided with the papacy under Pope Pius IX after the army of the Kingdom of Italy led by the Savoy family entered Rome on September 20, 1870, overthrew the pope . and the Papal States, and took over the Quirinal Palace, and the nobles later ennobled by the Pope prior to the Lateran Treaty of 1929. Any family that produced popes for the Vatican is royalty. Most of the black nobility are Vatican royalty. The black nobility consider themselves sovereign princes. These families earned the title of "black" nobility for their relentless unscrupulousness. They used murder, rape, kidnapping, robbery and all kinds of deception on a large scale, without resisting the achievement of their objectives. The black nobility were the families that financed and created the holy corporation of the Vatican with the aim of imposing world slavery as a necessary institution, with the sole belief that some are born to rule and others to be ruled. The idea that certain families were born to rule as an arbitrary elite, while the vast majority of a given population is condemned to oppression, servitude, or slavery became the theological position of this elite. The "New World Order" is an attempt to take control of society by these fascist families with the purpose of the total slavery of humanity.
The Vatican is an imperial nation and is the largest empire in this world. The Vatican City, or the Holy Vatican Corporation, officially the Vatican City State, is a nation that operates as the largest intelligence network in the world. The Holy See is the "All-Seeing Eye" in society and a corporate entity connected to many other corporations and governments through papal and royal statutes. Archbishops and high-level bishops are the overseers of society within their districts and oversee politics, police, business, and organized crime. The same year that the professor of ecclesiastical law and practical philosophy at the University of Ingolstadt, Adam Weishaupt, created the Order of the Illuminati, was the same year that they created the United States as a corporation to run it as their private army and lead I dig the agenda of a "New World Order" for the elites, mainly, thanks to the infiltrated Freemasonry and directed by the Jesuits.
The New World Order is a conspiracy of lineage at the top. They are ancient and evil bloodlines that build and destroy empires for control through an order out of chaos. They empower and finance bankers and entrepreneurs to work for them through their corporate homes. They authorize and issue the creation of laws, agencies, the military, companies, and universities. They create and run religions and secret societies. They also finance and organize organized crime syndicates as if they were commercial enterprises. Some of the major royal bloodlines include Savoy, Bourbon, Medici, Glücksburg, Wittelsbach, Nassau-Weilberg, Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, Romanov, Grimaldi, Orleans, Braganza, Habsburg, Hannover, Windsor, Saud, Thani, Khalifa, Alouwite , Zogu, Hohenzollern, Orange-Nassau, Bonaparte and Bernadotte. Many royal bloodlines still rule their nations as heads of state such as the United Kingdom, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, Monaco, Spain, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Morocco, Sweden, Norway, and Luxembourg. The Vatican City State is also a kingdom with the Pope of Rome as its monarch. The Black Nobility are the ancient bloodlines of the Papal States and they own the Holy See and the Vatican. They produced the first popes of Rome and held leadership positions in the Vatican from its inception. The Colonna and Torlonia still hold the hereditary positions of the Assistant Princes to the Papal Throne. The black nobility consider themselves sovereign princes. The Vatican is used as a central point of control and the Holy See is one of the oldest and most criminal corporate entities in existence. The Spanish Catholic Church is immensely rich, it has not suffered the crisis and also enjoys a true tax haven, being free to pay taxes, such as the IBI, works, companies, etc. The vast majority of the assets in their possession and on their accounts are completely opaque. This situation is illegitimate, unfair and presumably illegal, and this occurs with the complicity and consent of the public powers.

HEROES of DEAD WORLD
PART FIVE:
Cheyenne Mountain Space Force Complex, Colorado, 1100 hours…
This was turning out to be the longest five minutes of Green Dragon’s life. Though Green Dragon was near invulnerable to most damage, especially fire and heat based attacks, and despite the fact that he was a more skilled in hand to hand combat that his opponent, Firefox’s plasma attacks were powerful enough to hurt even him. Green Dragon’s own fire based attacks weren’t harming Firefox, who made absolutely no effort to avoid them. In fact, Green Dragon suspected that his fire attacks was only making Firefox more powerful. In contrast, Green Dragon knew that he couldn’t dodge Firefox’s plasma attacks indefinitely and soon, one of his blasts was going to connect. Below him, the landscape was pot marked for miles around with eight foot deep smoldering craters where Firefox missed with his powerful plasma blasts, each impact probably causing more damage to the Cheyenne Mountain facility. Green Dragon knew that this had to end quickly and he hoped that the cameras at Cheyenne Mountain were still monitoring the battle.
Green Dragon’s only chance was to maneuver close enough to Firefox and force a physical fight. If he could get within arms distance, he was sure that he could knock the arrogant son of a bitch out. He barrel rolled to the left, narrowly avoiding getting incinerated by another one of Firefox’s blasts, then yelled, charging straight towards the plasma powered hero, the two foot long razor claws mounted on his left forearm gauntlets glowing white hot and ready to strike. Green Dragon only had time to raise it defensively across his face as one of Firefox’s plasma blasts finally connected.
The plasma blast hit Green Dragon like an artillery explosion and he tumbled uncontrolled out of the sky training fire and smoke behind him as he fell. Skidding across the ground nearly 500 feet below him, Green Dragon left a trail that scarred the earth for nearly a quarter mile before finally coming to a smoking halt in the middle of a field in the valley below. Firefox landed a few feet from where Green Dragon lay motionless, his fists glowing white and ready to fire the killing blow.
“Barbecued dragon time,” he hissed.
“Oh no you don’t, you mother jerk-face!” Firefox looked up just in time to see Sky Fyre flying low over the ground towards him, her eyes and fists ablaze with fury and fire.
“Sky Fyre,” said Firefox, holding out his hands out in front of him. “No, honey! Wait! I’m…”
A look of surprise filled Firefox’s face as Sky Fyre’s plasma fire ball struck the overpowered hero dead center of his chest. The blast explosion hurled Firefox high into the sky, trailing a fiery tail of pure plasma energy twisting behind him. He smashed into the mountainside nearly a mile away, lying motionless in the middle of a smoking crater nearly ten feet deep and fifty feet wide. Sky Fyre stood there, eyes and mouth wide with surprise. “Did I… did I… did I just…” she muttered.
“Yeah,” grunted Green Dragon, picking himself up off the ground, straightening up his helmet and massaging his bruised shoulders. Brushing large clumps of dirt and rocks off of his shoulders and neck, Green Dragon said, “You just defeated a Level 8 hero with Level 10 thermal, fire, and plasma projection powers.”
Sky Fyre leapt. “Whoo-hoo! I kicked his ass, huh, GD?”
“Language, Sky,” reprimanded Green Dragon, squinting in the distance at the thin plume of rising smoke to see if Firefox had recovered yet, and smiling to himself knowing that he and Sky Fyre would be long gone before Firefox regained consciousness.
“Sorry, GD,” said Sky Fyre. “But, wait. How did my fire ball blast knock him out? Firefox feeds off of solar and heat sources, causing fire or heat based attacks against him to actually make him stronger. My fire ball wasn’t any stronger than one of yours, GD. So how did I hurt him so bad?”
“We have to get to the detention facility in Kansas,” said Green Dragon, abruptly changing the subject. “With our stealth jet destroyed, we will have to fly ourselves directly to Ransom then figure out a way to get Doctor Genocide’s assistant out of the facility. Do you think you have the energy for it, Sky?”
“Yeah, man!” the teen heroine said, clapping. “I just kicked Firefox’s butt!”
As the pair took to the sky, the young heroine looked over to her mentor and said, “Hey, GD, did you hear that old creeper call me ‘Honey?’ What a weirdo!”
“I heard,” replied Green Dragon.
“I wonder what he was trying to say before I blasted him?” said Sky Fyre. “And what were you two talking about before the fight? I could see it on the monitors, but there wasn’t any audio.”
“It wasn’t anything important,” lied Green Dragon. “Right now, we have to keep focused on the mission at hand.”
“You got it, GD,” smiled Sky Fyre. “Ha! I just kicked Firefox’s butt and… oh… wait! Shoot! Shoot! Shoot! Shoot! Shoot!” Sky Fyre smacked her forehead.
“What’s wrong, Sky?” Green Dragon had a worried tone in his voice. Sky Fyre was extremely intelligent and observant for a girl her age. Had she figured out the truth? Did she realize why he and Firefox had been locked in such a deadly battle? Was she aware of her mentor Green Dragon’s betrayal?
“Aww, nothing, GD,” said Sky Fyre. “I just forgot the damn bag of sandwiches back at Cheyenne Mountain!”
“Language, Sky,” said Green Dragon, relief in his voice and happy that he had deflected the subject again.
Sky Fyre looked over at her long time mentor, and squinted her eyes. “So, you’re lying to me, too,” she thought. “Okay. We’ll see about that.”
PART SIX:
Hannover, Germany, 1800 hours local time/ 1200 hours US EST…
Azure Blade dropped Tasmanian Devil on the top of a four story red brick building near a street corner in Hannover’s famous Stone Door district, one of many blocks in the city where young people and tourists had been welcomed to party, dance, mingle, and satisfy other vices back when the world still lived. The top of the red brick building on which the three heroes now stood was one of several brothels which lined the two blocks which made up the Stone Door district. Across from the building was a line of casinos, dance clubs, and gentlemen’s lounges. The white stone building connected to the brothel and facing the wide cobblestone courtyard where local bands used to play in an open air venue was the famous Sansibar Club. The sun was setting, the fading fire red and violet skies casting long shadows across the downtown city plaza. The dead shambled below, as if taking a late day stroll or doing last minute shopping in the plaza’s department stores. There were many, but not as closely packed as they were in Amsterdam.
Azure Blade looked over the city, a dubious expression on her face. “Okay, Devil. We’re here. Now what?”
Taz lifted the bottom of his mask, exposing his mouth. Producing a fine Cuban cigar from one of his pouches, he lit it and took a deep, satisfying drag. “Now?” he said. “Now, you two broads get lost.” Taz blew a cloud of smoke into the air.
“What?” said Wyvern, her eyes blazing with fire. “What are you talking about?”
“I said,” continued Taz. “You two get lost! You need to get to Berlin. Link up with the German heroes Haupmann Schnell and Schutzen Meister at the research laboratories. Go find out what you can!”
“And what about you, Devil?” said Azure Blade, threateningly. “Were you really serious about getting drunk tonight? And why here? Why in Hannover? Why at this particular place?”
Tasmanian Devil chuckled. “Yes, that was the plan and yes, I have my reasons for being here.” He took another drag of his cigar and blew the smoke towards the beautiful female heroine, Azure Blade.
“What’s the matter, blue eyes,” he smirked. “After all these years we’ve worked together. Don’t you trust me?”
“Yes?” whispered Wyvern.
“No!” yelled Azure Blade.
“No!” repeated Wyvern.
Taz rolled his eyes, chuckling again but without any humor. “Let’s just say we’re killing two birds with one stone. You two get to Berlin. I’ve got something to find out here.”
“Why the secrecy, Devil?” persisted Azure Blade. “What is so important that you have to do it alone?”
“Because I do!” growled Tasmanian Devil, swiftly unsheathing both of his sword-scythes from the two scabbards on his back and taking a fighting stance facing Azure Blade. For her part, Azure Blade instantly drew her two glowing blue swords in her hands as she squared off against Tasmanian Devil.
“You may be a Level 7 hero with Level 9 fighting ability, blue eyes,” snarled Tasmanian Devil. “But you’ve never bested me when we sparred in practice.”
“I was holding back on you, Devil,” responded the powerful female sword master. “Two of our comrades have already died on this mission and one remains under siege in London. Why are you so eager to abandon the mission and get rid of us? Is it so that you can run?”
“Nobody calls me a coward!” yelled Taz, charging towards Azure Blade with his right arm cocked back, ready to deal a killing blow with his sword-scythe. Azure Blade also yelled angrily, her twin blades wind milling in front of her as she charged towards the berserker hero. One fireball slammed into Azure Blade while another struck Tasmanian Devil, flinging both of them backwards and slamming each of them painfully on opposite sides of the rooftop ledge so hard that large chunks of concrete fell to the street below.
Wyvern hovered over them, her eyes and hands blazing with fire. “Go ahead, you two stupid fuckers! Give me another excuse!” She raised both fists, pointing them at her teammates.
Taz rubbed his head as he slowly and painfully got to his feet, his battle suit smoking from where the fireball hit him. “You roasted my cigar,” he groaned, tossing his ruined cigar aside.
“You’re lucky that’s the only thing I roasted,” sneered Wyvern.
“You said, ‘If you are still alive in the morning,” said Azure Blade. She was already standing tall, pointing one of her swords at Taz, although she was wincing in pain from the fire ball blow she took from Wyvern. “What did you mean by that?”
“I mean just what I said,” said Taz. “Meet me here in the morning. If I’m dead, you’ll know that I failed. If not, then I’ll have help. But only I can do it. I’m the only one they trust. If they see you two, they may bail, and any chance we have of saving the world may vanish.”
“Who?” yelled Azure Blade. “Who are you meeting?”
“You won’t like it if I told you, so you’ll have to trust me.” answered Taz, feeling around in one of his modular pouches attached to his battle suit belt.
Wyvern gently put her hand on Azure Blade’s shoulder. “Blade. We’re running out of time. If he wants to stay. If he wants to run. We can’t stop him. But if we come back in the morning, and he is neither dead or has brought help; if we find him laid out drunk and hung-over, I’ll fry him myself.”
Azure Blade looked at Wyvern, a heroine as innocent, bashful, and timid as she was beautiful and powerful. Wyvern was more a follower than a leader. Before she was gifted with super powers and became the heroine known as Wyvern, Krysta was a young Catholic nun from Ireland. But now? Something had changed. The young and inexperienced hero Wyvern, though supremely powerful, was also relatively untrained, unworldly, and extremely timid. Before she had gained her superhuman powers from the comet, Krysta was an attractive, red haired, twenty-one year old nun from Waterford, Ireland. An orphan secluded from the secular world, living much of her life in a convent, she had moved to New York two years ago to serve with the Catholic diocese there. Her superpowers manifested soon afterwards and for the past year, the heroine now known as Wyvern was recruited to serve with the US government super hero Operation Team Bravo. Azure Blade simply exhaled and nodded, giving Taz a distrustful glare before she and Wyvern took to the sky, flying east towards Berlin.
Later, Tasmanian Devil sat on the ledge of the rooftop of the brothel, dangling his feet and watching as an increasing mass of dead roamed below him, attracted as they were by the yelling and blasts of fire coming from the roof. They would have eventually made it to the roof where Taz was sitting, but Wyvern blasted the stairwell leading up to the roof before she and Azure Blade flew to Berlin.
Taz watched as the streets darkened below him, the moaning from the dead getting steadily louder. Soon, the light would fade and the dead would lose interest and shamble onwards. Taz tossed away the small empty bottle of Mint-Peppermint schnapps that the Dutch commander had given to him back in Amsterdam and pulled out the second bottle from a modular pouch on his belt.
“Thank God for plastic liquor bottles,” he thought, unscrewing the cap. Reaching into another pouch, he took out a small headphone transmitter, one set to a hidden frequency that none of his comrades or the US government could trace. “I’m here,” he said.
“Yeah, we know,” said the surprisingly clear voice at the other end. “Jeez, Master Sergeant! Could you have made any more noise? Fucking Metallica makes less noise than you!”
“I had to convince the rest of the team to leave,” replied Taz.
“Well, okay,” said the voice on the other end. “Come on down, then.”
“What?” said Taz. “You really wanted to meet inside the Sansibar?”
“Yes, I really wanted to meet inside the Sansibar!” said the other voice. “After every combat tour, we always met in Hannover, at the Sansibar, to blow off steam and get a little down time before returning home to the States. Come on down, Master Sergeant!”
Taz exhaled, steeling himself for what was obviously a trap. Four stories up with no way to get down off the roof, Taz jumped off the side, landing on the three story roof of the casino across the narrow cobblestone street . Pivoting, he leapt again dropping to the second story balcony of the brothel he was just on before somersaulting forwards, sword-scythes in hands and landing in the middle of a pack of the dead beside the Sansibar entrance. Taz immediately took a fighting stance, expecting to have to fight his way into the large night club. Instead, however, the dead parted ways, forming a makeshift clear corridor which led to the entrance of the Sansibar. Alarmingly, the club was now brightly lit. Two large muscular dead men, probably bouncers for the Sansibar while they still lived, emerged from inside the club and opened the doors. Knowing that this indeed was a trap, Tasmanian Devil none the less ran through the corridor created by the dead, both sword-scythes held across forearm to elbow in case the dead attacked as he burst into the club. With a start, Tasmanian Devil realized as he passed through the doors of the Sansibar that the two muscular bouncers were still alive!
The two bouncers closed the glass doors behind them as Taz spun around, ready to strike with his wicked blades should the two men attack him. Both men were extremely muscular, each wearing some type of makeshift, armored football pad uniforms with wicked spikes mounted on the shoulders, leather gauntlets and gloves infused with more armor plates, and black and red leather pants lined with yet more armored padding. The only difference between the two bearded brutes was that one had a Mohawk whilst the other had a reverse Mohawk.
“Hey,” said Taz. “I know you dudes! You two were super powered executive body guards before the world went to shit. The Intimidators, right? ”
The brute with the Mohawk, the one Taz knew as the German mercenary called Barbarian, extended a hand towards the bar and speaking in German, said, “Sit, please,” in a gruff but not unfriendly tone.
Taz looked over to Barbarian’s partner, the equally huge mercenary with the reverse Mohawk named Highlander. He simply puffed out his chest, crossing his massive arms. Highlander, predictably from the Scottish Isles, nodded towards the bar, saying nothing. Taz turned, facing the long, well lit bar still stocked from counter to ceiling with bottles of liquor and taps of beer. His eyes widened in surprise when he saw the lady standing behind the bar.
“Alda? You’re still alive?” said Taz in German.
Alda, the short platinum blonde bartender in her late thirties stared questioningly at the hero. “You…ummm…. you look different from when I last saw you. They say it’s you under that mask. But…”
Tasmanian Devil removed his mask, revealing a grim faced, middle aged man with short cropped white hair, thick furrowed brows, haunted grey eyes and a mouth in a permanent scowl framed by short, white stubble. “This better? How’ve you been, Alda?” Tasmanian Devil, smiled revealing incisor teeth that were twice as long as the average human’s.
“Yep. That’s you alright!” Alda laughed. “Although I think I like you better with that silly mask on your face!” She reached up and grabbed a tall glass from the rack over the bar. “Go ahead and sit down. It’s been a while. Can I get you your usual?”
There was always something about Alda’s voice, so gravelly, yet so seductively German, that appealed to Taz. “Where is he, Alda?”
Alda slid the long island iced tea in front of Taz, nodding her head and motioning to the side of the bar where an opening led to stone steps going down to the restrooms and storage spaces under the club. “He wanted to make sure you were alone, which is why he had Floppsy and Moppsy over there to greet you!”
“Hey!” yelled Highlander. Taz looked past the two mercenaries, outside past the glass doors where the dead seemed to have formed a protective barrier around the club, facing outwards.
“Master Sergeant Gunther!” A tall figure wearing a white mask and white cowl emerged from the stairway. He wore a red battle suit with white straps, gloves and combat boots. Two submachine guns where strapped to each thigh, two pistols on each waist, and a Carl Gustov rocket launcher was slung across his back. Over his right eye on his white mask was a gun-targeting, lead angle site that homed in on Taz.
Closely behind him came another man wearing a black, skull shaped helmet, black leather jacket and pants, over a white shirt with a black skull and crossbones design on it. In the man’s hands was a black steel mace. Next to him came another young man with wavy dark blonde hair, sunglasses, a black leather jacket and black leather pants. He wore a red leather shirt with a stylized ‘A’ in the middle of a black star design. Tasmanian Devil recognized the first two guys, but the last one looked like a young David Hasselhoff if he had decided to take up being a rock star instead of an actor. Taz figured he had to be German. Immediately, Taz leapt off the bar stool, holding his sword-scythes in a defensive fighting position as he faced the threats. Alda yelped and ducked under the bar as everyone else took fighting stances, surrounding the outnumbered hero.
The one with the white mask and cowl held up his hands towards Taz. “Whoa, there, Gunther! We’re all friends here! Is that how you greet your former commander? Hell, back in the day, you used to salute me!”
“That was before you became a damned assassin and domestic terrorist!” growled Taz. “Back then, you were Lieutenant Colonel Mayfield , MARSOC, and I was your senior ranking NCO, Master Sergeant Gunther. Those days are long gone. Now, you’re the murderer known as Arsenal, the leader of the criminal group known as the Jail Breakers who specialize in breaking super criminals out of prison. I’m the hero known as Tasmanian Devil, and the guy standing next to you with the black skull mask is the toady known as Dick Face! The only one who I don’t recognize is that Hitler youth wannabe’ who is skulking around behind you!”
“Black Skull,” yelled the man wearing the black skull helmet, hefting his mace threateningly at Taz. “You better call me by my correct name!”
“I’m Captain Awesome,” said the other man, pushing past the villain Black Skull and speaking English but in a thick German accent.
“Hero?” laughed the villain named Arsenal. “Really, Gunther? You call yourself a hero?” Arsenal continued laughing as he took a seat at the bar, motioning his two henchmen Black Skull and Captain Awesome to sit down with him. Barbarian and Highlander remained at the doors, obviously being paid by whatever currency that was valuable to them to keep watch and safeguard this meeting between hero and villains.
“Alda, would you kindly pour us a tumbler of your best bourbon, bitte?” Arsenal reached up, pulling back on his white cowl and removed his mask. Short cropped jet black hair topped a handsome black face, a thin, well trimmed moustache over his lips. The man now known as Arsenal had the dashing good looks of a black, Hollywood, action hero, save for the deep scar that cut from his upper right forehead and down across his lower right chin, a present given to him from Tasmanian Devil during their first battle when neither knew each other’s identity. In truth, if Tasmanian Devil had known that Arsenal was actually his former commanding officer, he may have plunged both his sword-scythes into his heart, instead.
“Come on, now Gunther,” said Arsenal. “I’ve wondered that for a long, long time. After everything we’ve done, after everything I know about you, how can you call yourself a hero?”
“Why am I here, Mayfield?” said Tasmanian Devil. “Why are those dead outside not attacking us?”
“I mean, admit it Master Sergeant,” continued Arsenal, ignoring Tasmanian Devil’s questions. “You’ve forgotten more people you’ve killed than I’ll ever remember people I’ve killed. So what? That comet gives you enhanced powers. The government gave you a fancy battle suit, a stupid code name, and an obscenely huge weekly paycheck and you now think you’re a hero?”
Arsenal downed his bourbon in one gulp, setting it down on the bar as Alda filled it again. “C’mon, Master Sergeant. Aside from tying to make an honest buck, what makes you any different than me?”
“Dammit, Mayfield,” Taz slammed his fist on the bar and making all of the glasses jump. “I didn’t come here to drink and catch up on old times with you as if nothing ever happened! Those were civilians that you had killed in Afghanistan! I don’t know what brought you here to Germany and frankly, I don’t care! I have a world to save! That’s what makes me different from you!”
Arsenal glanced over at Taz, who was sitting next to him at the bar and rested his chin on his hand. “Really, Gunther?” said Arsenal calmly, almost condescendingly. “You have a world to save? And how do you expect to do that, hmm?” He took a sip from his bourbon, savoring the smooth taste as it flowed down his throat. “Would it surprise you to know that that’s why we are here? It’s our world as well, you know.”
“What the hell are you talking about, Mayfield?” said Taz.
“You’ve already seen it, Master Sergeant,” said Arsenal. “Look outside. Go ahead. There are one hundred of the dead standing guard in front of the Sansibar, keeping the other dead from trying to enter. And they’ll be there for at least another three hours under his control before the nano’s expire.”
“His control?” said Tasmanian Devil, eying his former commanding officer suspiciously as he sipped his long island ice tea. “Who is in control?”
“Him,” said Arsenal, pointing over his shoulder with his thumb back where the stairs were. “He was our last mission. He was the last person the Jail Breakers broke out of SEAD custody, and believe me, you’ll thank me for it.”
“I’m pleased that you would come all this way just to see me,” said a figure climbing up the stairs. “It’s Mister Tasmanian Devil, isn’t it?”
“You!” growled Tasmanian Devil, grabbing up his sword-scythes and leaping towards the frail looking figure standing at the top of the stairs with the wild, unkempt, hair wearing a dirty white lab coat. When Tasmanian Devil’s former commanding officer, now turned super criminal, contacted him and asked him to meet him here in Hannover to have a meeting with someone who had the ability to save the world, the hero never imagined it would be this monster. It was him! Public enemy number one before the world died. It was this old man whose mechanical abominations had been responsible for murdering untold thousands of innocent people in his quest to wipe out mankind.
“I’ll kill you, you monster!” raged Tasmanian Devil. “I’ll kill you, Doctor Genocide!”

Hindsight is 2020: #16 - Duke's Travels

from Duke, 1980
Listen to it here!
It’s common knowledge by now among Genesis fans (and certainly among Hindsight readers), but Duke was intended at the outset to be an album where one side consisted of two solo songs from each member of the band. A kind of musical appetizer of sorts. Or I suppose the after-dinner mints, if the solo stuff ended up being the albums’s Side 2 instead. Either way, the real meat of the album was this side-long, group-composed behemoth with the working title of “Duke”, from which the album itself eventually took its name.
Phil: At one point I think we thought that we could revisit the idea of doing a long side...like “Supper’s Ready”. You know, something that was like a body of work. And I think we kind of...I mean, that’s why there’s “Duke’s Travels”, “Duke’s End”, because we still liked those titles...that’s what’s left of that idea, really. 1
Tony: They would’ve gone “Behind the Lines”, “Duchess”, “Guide Vocal”, “Turn It On Again”, “Duke’s Travels”, “Duke’s End”. Which is actually how it was performed live; we tried it. One reason we didn’t do it [on the album] is we didn’t want the comparison with “Supper’s Ready”, and felt maybe it wasn’t the moment to do a totally combined thing like that. As it is, there is quite a lot of linkage between those tracks anyhow; the first three are linked. 1
Tony may not have wanted the comparisons to “Supper’s Ready”, but now that he’s come out and said that, how could I do anything else? I’ll have more to say about “Supper’s Ready” later on, but for now let’s just take an overly-simplified look at its structure. At a very high level it looks like this: Intro, Powerful Section, Gentle Section, Rock Section, Epic Instrumental Section, Reprise of Intro, Reprise of Strong Section.
Now let’s look at the big “Duke” piece as originally conceptualized, through that same lens. It goes something like this: Intro, Powerful Section, Gentle Section, Rock Section, Epic Instrumental Section, Reprise of Gentle Section, Reprise of Intro.
Again, that’s heavily oversimplified and doesn’t account for the wide range of nuances, like how wildly different “Lover’s Leap” and “Behind the Lines” are as intro sections, or how the Gentle Section of “Supper’s Ready” comprises multiple movements and a lot of time while “Guide Vocal” is pretty brief by comparison. But in a very loose way, the skeleton of each of these things is the same. It’s not because Genesis sat there attempting to rewrite “Supper’s Ready”; it’s just that their songwriting sensibilities led them down a similar path of how to flow from quiet to loud, what and when to reprise something to tie the whole package together, and so forth.
So within that framework you have “Duke’s Travels” acting as a kind of analogue of “Apocalypse in 9/8” from “Supper’s Ready”, a segment that interestingly enough was written primarily by the combination of Tony, Mike, and Phil. That “Duke’s Travels” would carry a similar amount of water for its own musical suite therefore shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. If anything, Phil was even more involved this time around.
Phil: My commitment to Genesis is much greater than it ever was before. I would fight for it more now than I would have done before because it’s more me. That’s what it comes down to. There’s more of me in it. I’ve come a long way since And Then There Were Three, I really have...Duke for me isn’t just another Genesis album. It’s a whole period of growing up. A musical maturity if you like. 2
It’s fitting for the song to be called “Travels”, because this one’s a ride. It opens with these warm cymbal waves, echoing guitar chords, and an almost tentative keyboard line. This all fades into nothing as Phil’s drums take over with heavy intensity, followed by a more melodic and driving keyboard bit on top. Switch from the rapid hollow drums to some cymbals and back again. Then you get this big bit that sounds like an alternate soundtrack to Casino Night Zone; it’s Sonic the Hedgehog eleven years in advance. There are melodies, countermelodies, textures, with a masterclass in drumming underpinning the whole shebang.
Phil: There’s definitely a side to us coming out which wasn’t on the last album: the playing side. 3
Uhhh, yeah. Yeah, I’d say so. And now a pounding straight rhythm with some guitakeyboard interplay, creating a whole lot of tension. Again, this is like the build in “Apocalypse in 9/8” all over again, just with a somewhat different flavor. It’s bigger, and bigger, and bigger, and then oh my goodness what IS that heavenly sound on top of these goosebump-laden chords?
Tony: The Arpeggiator was one of the things which I used on “Duke’s Travels”, and what a marvelous effect that was! And it had a bass pedal on it and you had the polyphonic synthesizer on it so I could do all those other things as well. I have got two of them and there were only about a dozen of them [made], and I think the other ten only sold because I was using it! The company went bust after that or got taken over. It was a fun instrument. 4
The Arpeggiator sounds like the name of a supervillain, or at least a nickname a group of friends would bestow on one of their drinking buddies for reasons too wrapped up in a certain time and place for anyone outside the group to possibly understand. Here though? Here it’s the hero of “Duke’s Travels”, putting that sparkly shimmer in the sky above the song’s most triumphant moment, making the whole thing dazzle in radiance while Mike’s guitar finally soars out of the background and across the illuminated heavens. And to then have “Guide Vocal” come back in the midst of it all? My my my. That’s the “666 is no longer alone” shiver-down-the-spine moment of “Duke’s Travels”, no question about it.
Tony: There’s a strong emotional moment when it gets to the repeat of “Guide Vocal” done within “Duke’s Travels”, which is a very intense piece of singing. To me that’s one of the strongest...one of the very strong moments in Genesis music. 1
And then the song gradually bleeds energy over the rest of the “Guide Vocal” repeat, the emotion spent and the travels making their way home. A brief respite, a striking synth flute bit reminiscent of “The Court of the Crimson King”, and then the whole thing careens back into the Intro Reprise known as “Duke’s End”. I see a lot of people say things like “If ‘Apocalypse in 9/8’ were its own song, it would still be one of my favorite Genesis tunes.” And I find that all those people also really love “Duke’s Travels” because it is, essentially, “Apocalypse in 9/8” carved out as its own track. The context of the larger piece makes it that much stronger, but it’s perfectly capable of standing up under its own power as well.
The 2007 Turn It On Again Tour really brought this to light, I think. Selecting it for inclusion in the set was a bold move, replacing “The Colony of Slippermen” and “In That Quiet Earth” as the middle leg of the big In the Cage Afterglow Medley”. Those are big shoes to fill, and it wasn’t easy for anyone involved.
Tony: Before we did the last tour I spent quite a few months getting all the sounds together, whatever I thought I could, including some of the processes from the older ones like the Synclavier sounds and a few others, and tried to get everything as close as I could to being right. Even so, when we got out there I had to change quite a bit. I was pretty well prepared actually. Mike was well prepared. Daryl is ALWAYS well prepared! Phil was completely unprepared, so it took him about two weeks of just trying to get to play how he used to, which was tough. Especially on a piece like “Duke’s Travels”, which was always a tough one. 4
And what about the audience? How would they react?
Tony: I think the set is more demanding as it combines so many instrumental bits from various eras, like the…“Duke’s Travels” bits...It’s also demanding for the audience. Some of them you will lose during the instrumental bits as they don’t know them…The other thing is, we don’t have anything to prove; we’re just doing it. We’re playing to fans who know they like us. We’re not trying to convert them. Perhaps in the past we did that. 5
I love this attitude. “We’re going to play what moves us, and you’ll either check out or come with us.” That attitude, that music...it’s why in my opinion the 2007 version of the medley is the best one they did. Something about that epic moment in “Duke’s Travels” just resonates, even when the arrangement changes so that the big vocal entrance is just an extension of Daryl Stuermer’s guitar solo. You can totally see what Tony was talking about here: the crowd cheers wildly for the end of the “Cinema Show” segment and even more wildly for the start of “Afterglow” but generally stand around puzzled during “Duke’s Travels”. “Wait, what’s this one? I don’t recognize this one. Do you recognize this one?” And yet it’s still the song that guides them home.
I wish we could see it again on the upcoming tour, but I don’t think that’s likely:
Tony: It’ll be kind of different. Phil used to have some very dramatic moments on stage with Genesis. He’d never have the same kind of dramatic moments or intensity we used to have...sitting on a chair. Obviously, the effects can help things out a bit. So, you just say, “He’s not going to do those the same way.” We’d just do the songs. We’ve got plenty of good songs to do and it wouldn’t be a problem. But I don’t think we could have the extended keyboard solo we did on the last tour in 2007 which had a bit of everything in it. There wouldn’t be much point, because the point of it was Mike, Phil, and I playing together, like we did on things such as “Duke’s Travels”. There would be a different intensity and a different kind of set list. 6
That’s a real shame, because “Duke’s Travels” is a downright treat, especially in live form. I suppose we should be thankful we got what we did from it along the way.
But hey, speaking of live performances and context, what’s the deal with these pieces anyway? The lyrics to the various songs in the “Duke” piece don’t have any immediately apparent connection, even when they’re linked together like “Behind the Lines”, “Duchess”, and “Guide Vocal”. Is there some kind of meta-narrative happening here? Something where some duke of something or other is also a singer but betrayed and then something about a TV? I’m really confused.
Thankfully, we have Phil Collins in concert during the Duke Tour to sort it all out for us.
Phil: The story of a mate of ours whose name was Albert. Albert was a born loser. Nothing he did went right; he was one of life’s failures. Written off, just like that. I’ll give an example: Albert once fell in love with a lady. 7
Hmm, I guess “Behind the Lines” could be about falling in love with a character in print, couldn’t it? Reading the pages, feeling closer to someone, whether that be a fictional character or a celebrity in the news? Seems our old Albert was developing an infatuation!
Phil: Beautiful lady she was, beautiful lady...a duchess. And the duchess was a very domineering lady. She was into S&M. Ah, but poor old Albert didn’t speak Spanish or Mexican, so she kicked him out! And he went home that night, and was very disappointed and dejected. 7
Ah, duchess like the title of the second track! I’m following this now, I think. Albert falls in love with this celebrity singer, who he doesn’t really know except through print media. He encounters her in real life, but doesn’t speak her native language, and his advances are rebuffed on that basis (and also because he’s kind of a creep). So Albert gets upset and writes the whole thing off in a sulky bit called “Guide Vocal” - dual meaning there, since a guide vocal is what you call the rough vocal track to line up the instrumentation before the real vocal is laid down. Albert thinks he’s the reason the Duchess succeeded! This is getting good, now.
Phil: So he sat down on the chair, and he turned on the television, and suddenly his whole life changed because he was back in love again! He fell in love! He fell in love with his television set. It was a really beautiful looking television set, square with sort of a glass bit in the middle. And it was a good conversational piece for his friends, but it was a bit of a one-sided affair for Albert. And in two days he was in hospital having the glass removed from his private parts. 7
Ouch! But yes yes, we’re seeing it now. “All I need is a TV show...down on my luck again…” This is Albert coping with the loss by finding a new medium for his romantic fantasies! I just hope that bit with the hospital is merely a joke...
Phil: So he went on a convalescing holiday abroad over there, where tragedy struck again. Because Albert fell in love. Again. This time, with his walking stick. We’re not too sure about Albert; seems a bit of a weirdo. And I think you’ve guessed it: in two or three days time he was back in hospital having the walking stick removed from his private parts. So he came back from his convalescing holiday abroad over there, to England over here where we live, where he entered a home for unsuccessful young louts, called Duke's. But I can see you’re getting very upset, but I don’t want you to, because every cloud has a silver lining, and every silver lining has a cloud. Every bin has a liner. And it was in this bin that Albert wrote some fantastically boring books. He wrote such literary classics as Romeo & Albert and A Midsummer Night’s Albert. Albert: A Space Odyssey. Albert Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. A horror film called Albert: Prince of Darkness. The Return of Albert. The Return of the Brides of Evil of Albert. And so it goes on. And the big change for him came when he started writing sex books. We have a very, very big one called Danish Albert on the Job; a big hit for him! 7
Wow, so “Duke’s Travels” is something literal! After some journeying around the world he entered a home called Duke's, so they were literally the Travels to Duke's! And saaaaay! That “Guide Vocal” reprise with all its intensity is just Albert writing his books with an “I’ll show you!” kind of attitude! This also explains the reprise of “Behind the Lines”, come to think of it! He’s gone from “It’s written in the book” to writing books himself by “Duke’s End”. It’s a strange story, yes, but I think we’ve done it! I think we’ve cracked the code of this whole thing!
Phil: And now, to the music! Which has got nothing to do with Albert; I was deliberately wasting your time. This is some music from our album called Duke, and we call it - pretty cleverly - “Music From Our Album Called Duke”. OK! 7
Well s---.
Let’s hear it from the band!
Phil: The group compositions are the strongest. A lot of that is down to the rhythms...But the group compositions are definitely breaking new ground...I wanted to do a long song with some substance...So basically we put a lot of things together between us…“Duke’s Travels” and “Duke’s End” were riffs that we wrote as we went along. We intended it to be one 25 minute piece but when we came to the practicalities of the album, the solo songs on the second side wouldn’t have run so well, so we had to split it all up. 2
Tony: This album, I have to be honest...this is my favorite Genesis album really. It has such a sort of positive quality about it. I love the way it starts; I love “Duchess”, I think it works fantastically; and I love all the instrumental stuff towards the end, too, although I think [the album’s conclusion] starts a little weak. But it just gets really good. 1

Glitz My Ass!

The House of Grimaldi is associated with the history of the Republic of Genoa, Italy, and of the Principality of Monaco. The Grimaldi dynasty is a princely house originating in Italy, founded by the Genoese leader of the Guelphs, Francesco Grimaldi, who in 1297 took the lordship of Monaco along with his soldiers dressed as Franciscans. In that principality his successors have reigned to the present day. During much of the Ancien Regime the family spent much of its time in the French court, where from 1642 they used their French title of Duke of Valentinois. The current head of the family is Albert II of Monaco, Sovereign Prince of Monaco, son and successor of Prince Rainier III and the princess consort Grace of Monaco, formerly Grace Kelly ...
Ernesto Augusto de Hannover (February 26, 1954, Hannover, West Germany) is the pretender to the throne of Hannover and is prince of Hannover (There's no frickin' throne of Hannover, Germany is a federal republic! No more title either in Germany since the end of WWI, that's 100+ years! They all just cram it under Given Names in their passport, which really means nothing - Ernst August Prinz von Hannover, instead of Prinz Ernst August von Hannover! Also sued German States after the reunification to regain his former Kaiser family's 10,000 hectares & €100 million "possessions" in the east, which had been seized by the allied forces 1945-49 and not Germany, dismissed in 1998/2000! He was fined €230,000+ for numerous assault and battery cases in Germany) Duke of Brunswick Luneburgo. He is the husband of the princess Carolina of Monaco with whom he has a daughter, the Princess Alejandra of Hannover, born 20 of July 1999 (Princess of nobody, just like you!)
I've also read somewhere that the Grimaldi of the early years simply lured merchant ships that sailed the stormy sea with false signal fire onto their cliffs! And after they had crashed, they collected the alluvial cargo! Don't know if that's really true, but they were and still are low nobility (Everybody in Europe knows!), and read that before the Internet! Also, before they had built the casino in 1856 and turned themselves into a tax haven, they just had a few rocks, a 2.5-kilometer shoreline and Mediterranean fish ...
Wow, Monaco glamour gives me huge errections!
Just like The House of Liechtenstein, another tax haven! The family comes from Castle Liechtenstein in Lower Austria, which the family possessed from at least 1140 to the 13th century, and from 1807 onwards. Heinrich I. von Liechtenstein (d. 1265) was lord of Nikolsburg, Liechtenstein and Petronell. Through the centuries, the dynasty acquired vast swathes of land, predominantly in Moravia, Lower Austria, Silesia and Styria, though in all cases, these territories were held in fief under other more senior feudal lords, particularly under various lines of the Habsburg family, to whom several Liechtenstein princes served as close advisors. Thus, and without any territory held directly under the Imperial throne, the Liechtenstein dynasty was unable to meet a primary requirement to qualify for a seat in the Imperial Diet (Reichstag)
As a comparison factor and one of the smallest sovereign states in Europe, Luxembourg! The House of Luxembourg (Czech: Lucemburkové) was a late medieval European royal family, whose members between 1308 and 1437 ruled as King of the Romans and Holy Roman Emperors as well as Kings of Bohemia (Čeští králové, König von Böhmen) and Hungary. Their rule over the Holy Roman Empire was twice interrupted by the rival House of Wittelsbach ...

Squad Profiles 2016-17 - Leicester City [8/20]

Hi /soccer,
As we get closer to the season, I've decided to post squad profiles for each team in the Premier League. I've had a good response to the request for contributors from /LCFC for this post, so if you're interested in writing a paragraph about your favourite player or a young player who people might not know much about, let me know a few days before your team comes up or look in your team’s subreddit as I’ve posted in each one asking for contributors. Thanks to all who read and commented on the previous posts, I got some great feedback, there were some good discussions in the comments, and I wasn't met with hateful abuse which was nice! A link to all posts in the series will be at the bottom of this post. All photos are courtesy of the club website unless otherwise credited.
Apologies (again) for how long this one took. I’ve had some internet issues and only been able to get on on my phone, and then my laptop crashed and I lost the entire thing, hence why it’s kind of half-arsed which I also apologise for. Leicester are probably the most boring champions ever, re-writing this from scratch on Friday evening and this morning is the closest I’ve come to just giving up. But I’m hoping to get them back to being fairly regular now because I have a lot of help for the next few and should be able to get them out quickly and be back in the rhythm.

GOALKEEPERS

#12 Ben Hamer - After spending time out on loan last year and with Ron-Robert Zieler joining the club this summer, Hamer doesn’t seem likely to feature in the club’s first team plans much this year. He will probably go out on loan, unless a Championship team with keeper problems comes in with a decent bid in which case Leicester may consider selling.

#1 Kasper Schmeichel - Who would’ve thought that a keeper who originally found himself at Leicester because of a habit to follow Sven-Goran Eriksson around would go on to play a crucial role in winning them the Premier League title? Schmeichel kept 15 clean sheets last season, tied for second in the league with David de Gea and Joe Hart. This season he will have more competition for his place with Ron-Robert Zieler coming in, but he will still be the favourite.

#21 Ron-Robert Zieler - Leicester getting Zieler from Hannover for under 3m while teams like Everton are frantically scrambling for a keeper is fantastic business. The German could’ve easily commanded a £7-8m price tag, maybe even a bit more to a desperate team, and Leicester have paid pennies for him. I’m a big fan of the former Manchester United youth product, he has an air of calm about him when he plays, yet still is a commanding presence in goal and will definitely have Schmeichel on his toes this season.

DEFENDERS

#3 Ben Chilwell - Despite Arsenal and Liverpool knocking at the door, Ben Chilwell committed his future to Leicester this summer, repaying the faith the club have showed in him. Despite just three senior appearances to his name, Leicester put a price of £10m on the 19 year old’s head this summer, and Chilwell looks to be getting a bigger role in the team this year. With all the potential to be a top Premier League left back, Chilwell just has to put in the performances on the pitch to back up the club’s valuation.

-- Richie De Laet - Last season Richie De Laet became the first player to win Premier League winners medal and a Championship promotion medal in the same season, having played for Middlesbrough on loan for the second half of the season. This season, however, De Laet’s future is uncertain. With new signing Luis Hernandez taking De Laet’s number 2 shirt, De Laet was not given a number when the shirt numbers were announced last week. This could suggest that the Belgian right back is on his way out, although right back is the position with the least depth and the weakest starter for the club.

#28 Christian Fuchs - A free transfer from Schalke last summer, Fuchs took over the left back spot from Jeffrey Schlupp and will be the presumed starter this season. An incredible crosser of the ball, Fuchs assisted four goals last season including this crucial winner against Spurs, a corner that Fuchs made look effortless as he picked out a completely unmarked Robert Huth perfectly, and this gorgeous ball to Jamie Vardy against United.

#2 Luis Hernandez (by Daz93) - Hernandez looks very composed on the ball and reads the game very well. I wouldn't be surprised to see him carry on in place of Huth after Hull, since Huth will be suspended for that game.

#6 Robert Huth - HUUUUUUUUUUUUTH. Robert Huth, as well as being a big fucker and an incredible centre back, is goddamn hilarious. Let’s just get that clear first. Dude was suspended by the FA for playing “cock or no cock” on twitter, a game where people are asked if they think a picture is of a transsexual or not, and the rest of his feed is an absolute goldmine. Anyway, Huth signed for Leicester on loan from Stoke one game into the aforementioned tranny ban, and missed his first Leicester game due to it. He soon made his debut and was a big part of the miraculous push for survival at the end of the season, including the lone goal he scored that season in a 3-2 win at West Brom. His arrival really helped Wes Morgan and the two have built a strong partnership at the back.

#5 Wes Morgan - The Leicester captain. He seemed to struggle a bit in the first half of Leicester’s first season back in the top flight, but last season he was excellent. A powerful centre back who is as good in the air as he is at tackling on the ground and muscling opponents off the ball. Morgan and Huth will be a force to be reckoned with again this year, especially if Mendy can help by going some way to replacing Kante’s defensive contributions.

#15 Jeffrey Schlupp - Striker turned left mid turned left back, Jeffrey Schlupp is an incredibly versatile option for Leicester. With Fuchs at LB and Ahmed Musa and Demarai Gray both likely to be preferred at LM, Schlupp will probably be used primarily from the bench this season, providing an option who can come on to help out defensively and hit quickly on the counter. He is a powerful runner with impressive speed, and always causes problems to the opposing defence when running at them.

#17 Danny Simpson - Right back is Leicester’s weakest position, however Danny Simpson has played well enough under Ranieri to convince the manager not to look for a new RB in the transfer window so he is likely to be the mainstay at right back again this season.

MIDFIELDERS

#11 Marc Albrighton - Albrighton played on the left side of Leicester’s four man midfield last season, linking up very well with Christian Fuchs and providing defensive cover when Fuchs played on the overlap to put crosses in. Despite playing every game last season, Albrighton will probably see less of the field this season with Ahmed Musa, Demarai Gray and Bartosz Kapustka all available as wing options and Riyad Mahrez likely playing most weeks.

#13 Daniel Amartey - Ghanian midfielder Amartey joined Leicester in January and made just five appearances last season, four of them from the bench. His only start came at right back in a 1-0 win over Norwich. He will be competing for time with Matty James and Andy King as Mendy and Drinkwater look set to see the bulk of the starting time.

#4 Danny Drinkwater (by Daz93) - I think Drinky has a lot to show this season after the disappointment of being left out of the England squad for the Euros. He's looked immense in pre season, very fit and very sharp. We'll of course be missing Kante a lot, so I'm hoping he can fill his role more and help Mendy adapt to the league.

#22 Demarai Gray - Signed when Leicester activated the release clause of just £3.7m in his contract at Birmingham, Gray made 12 appearances last season for Leicester, all but one of them from the bench. A very talented wide midfielder, he will be pushing for more appearances this season and will likely be the first option on the left when Ahmed Musa is deployed up front.

#8 Matty James - OK so story time: I kinda know Matty James. He went to my high school’s rival school and I played football with him a few times. I know his brother Reece (who currently plays for Wigan) better, and he destroyed me (and basically everyone) at cross country a lot of times. There’s no point to this story really, it’s just cool to think that I’ve played football with a premier league winner (albeit one who didn’t play a single game because of an injury). Anyway, for obvious reasons I’m a big fan of Matty James. He missed last season with a cruciate ligament injury, but will be back in the Leicester side this season, competing for rotation time with Andy King and Daniel Amartey. He started 20 games in 2014-15 prior to his long-term injury.

#14 Bartosz Kapustka - A new signing this summer, the young Polish winger joins Leicester from Cracovia following a very strong season in the Ekstraklasa where he scored four times and set up nine goals, followed by an impressive showing at the Euros. Capable of playing on either wing and as an attacking midfielder or a centre mid if needed, Kapustka will be a vital utility player this season.

#10 Andy King - The first player in the Premier League era to win the top 3 divisions of English football with the same team (#FACTS), Andy King made 25 appearances last season, 16 of them from the bench, scoring twice. He will be the third choice CM again this season, ready to fill in if Drinkwater or Mendy get injured or need a rest. The Welshman is a good backup, but isn’t really good enough to be starting for a Premier League team.

#26 Riyad Mahrez (by abxdsays) - One of the most talented and enjoyable players to watch, even if he makes a simple pass or squirms his way out of a tight spot, he's just pure entertainment from kick-off. Obviously his close-control is often talked about, but his ability to pick a pass or find the right angle to curl one in is second-to-none. However his qualities are known to the world and defenders will close him down and limit his space.

#24 Nampalys Mendy - Signed for £13m this summer with the daunting task of replacing the giant Kante-sized hole in Leicester’s midfield, Mendy seems like an ideal choice. Comparisons to Claude Makelele (the best pure DM in Premier League history) are apt, Mendy is a consistent player who is a talented passer of the ball as well as a solid tackler. It will be very interesting to see how quickly he forms a partnership with Drinkwater and whether he can adapt to the PL style quickly and help Leicester to perform in the league and in Europe.

STRIKERS

#7 Ahmed Musa (by Daz93) - Musa's pace is frightening and I'm sure he's every bit as quick as Vards. It was interesting to see them play together in the Community Shield but I'm more interested to see some varied formations with him playing more on the wing, where I think he will thrive.

#20 Shinji Okazaki (by abxdsays) - To me Shinji is the ultimate defensive forward, his contributions are widely overlooked and his hold up play is quite decent. He has an incredible knack of either winning headers or fouls, it's seemingly always one or the other. He is virtually a 5th Midfielder in our system, you could argue he vacates the spot of a false 9, but in our case we still have Vardy as the most offensive player. It's quite a different system to many other clubs and arguably one of the reasons we did so well. When you see Musa and Vardy together, you'll notice the gap between Midfield and the Strikeforce.

#23 Leonardo Ulloa - Poor Leo Ulloa. While the rest of the Leicester team were fighting relegation two seasons ago, Ulloa was lighting it up and was the sole bright spot in the mess that was Leicester. Then Leicester bring in Okazaki and Vardy stops fucking about and starts playing well, and Ulloa is kicked to the curb. OK so that may be an exaggeration, because Ulloa made 29 appearances (mostly from the bench) last season, and scored six goals including a late winner against Norwich.

#9 Jamie Vardy - A brief note before we begin: I don’t like Jamie Vardy. (Please don’t all brigade to the comments with abuse, this is my opinion and is basically going to be an entirely biased rant. I’m going to say a lot of very nice things about him afterward. Maybe skip this paragraph if you’re a Vardy fanboy.) He’s a colossal shithead, and looks like the kind of person who turns up to a club in a tracksuit, spills his drink on you and then demands you buy him another one, or else his mates will “fuckin bottle you mate.” I find it interesting, as a Liverpool fan, that people are so quick to vilify Suarez for the biting incidents (quite rightly, they were disgusting) and the racial term used toward Evra, yet are tripping over themselves to verbally fellate Vardy despite the fact he has an assault conviction and was caught on camera LAST SUMMER shouting a racial slur in a casino. In my mind, the fact everyone says “Suarez is a great player, but he’s a chompy racist” should also apply that “but” to Vardy, but no, he’s just The People’s Striker. People talk about Vardy playing while wearing an ankle tag like it’s some badge of honour that helps his underdog story. It fucking isn’t. Cristiano Ronaldo could play in an ankle tag; he’d just have to be stupid enough to beat the shit out of someone outside a pub. On top of all that, he got sent off for swearing at a ref last season. Chat shit, get banned you dick. How fucking dense do you have to be to get sent off for that? I’ve watched Wayne Rooney call a ref a cunt right to his face and only get a warning, come on Vards.
Anyway, now that I’ve vented about Vardy the person, I’m going to write a completely fair and unbiased review of Vardy the player: he is a damn good striker. I use Suarez as a comparison up there, and it’s surprisingly apt for his playing style too. They have a lot of the same strengths. Finishing? Here’s Vardy, and here’s Suarez. Ability on the ball? VardySuarez. Getting in behind defenders quicker than they can react? Vardy,, and Suarez. The ability to create something magical from nothing? Jamie Fucking Vardy. Luis Fucking Suarez. One more highlight for each because I’m enjoying this? Vardy with his first touch for England, Suarez with a great header (with bonus Aly Cissokho making the greatest cross of his life completely by accident). The only difference really is Vardy’s acceleration vs Suarez’s free kicks It’s part of what makes him such a popular figure in spite of the personal issues he’s had – he’s a joy to watch and it’s difficult to dislike him when you’re watching the things he can do on the pitch. Hell I’m as anti-Vardy as they come, and watching these highlights I find myself starting to like him, although I’m sure at least one person in the comments will insult me for daring to dislike him, or post "DAE chat shit get banged hur dur" and I’ll go back to the dark side. Vardy got his first England call-up this year, and made the Euros squad. He was one of the few decent performers this summer, and despite my dislike for him, I’m excited to see him hopefully contribute some more big moments for the Three Lions in the future. A couple of half decent seasons and he’ll have a shout for the World Cup squad, and I’d take him. He’s a kind of player England have struggled for, a little menace with a nose for goals. Jamie Vardy is, in my opinion, the best pure finisher in the league. You put the ball at his feet ten yards from goal, and he’ll score 99% of the time. He may not be as complete a striker as Aguero, or as strong as Kane or Rooney, or as dynamic as Sturridge if he ever manages to avoid injury long enough play 100% again, but he’s damn quick, he’s good on the counter and he puts the ball in the net. I may not like him, and I would be very surprised if he ever has a season as good as 2015-16 again, but he’s damn talented and he’ll be drawing the attention of a lot of defenders this year.

STRONGEST ELEVEN

This was tough. This is how I expect them to line up the majority of the time, which is why I’ve gone with it, but I really struggled with it. Demarai Gray is the biggest sticking point for me, he’s an incredibly talented young player and I’m a huge fan but I couldn’t drop Mahrez and Leicester spent so much on Musa (and with good reason), it’s hard to leave him out too. I also think Ulloa is too good to be on the bench but not good enough to crack the lineup. It hurts to leave Inler out too, but he’s just not shown enough yet in a Leicester shirt and Drinkwater and Mendy are in by default at this point. Similarly Ben Chilwell is supremely talented, but the spot is still Fuchs’ to lose. Leicester’s biggest strength in my opinion is the fact that they have two players at almost every position who could realistically break into the team with a bit of good form.
Aaaaand they just lost to Hull. Fucking great start Leicester.

Any comments, questions, rebuttals etc please comment, one of the reasons for doing this series was to promote discussion as I frequently see comments complaining that there isn't enough discussion. Even if you just want to tell me my strongest eleven is shit (it's probably wrong) drop a comment!
