Intro
First of all I really am into watch history and I like good watches over brandnames. The difficult part is to find out if brands are really what they are sending out to the customer. So if you know anything about the brands I will share with you please let me know everything you know.
Second, I can‘t afford super expensive watches. Currently I am a student so my budget is more than limited. For me it is important to get good watches for a good price.
Third, right now I am focused on Quarz watches. I deliberatly bought not a single Automatic watch. As soon as my budget allows it (when I start to work) I will start my automatic collection.
Now my collection
The first two watches I bought at the same time were Lotus and Fossil.
Lotus 15969/2 is a real nice sports watch and on my opinion extremely scratch resistant. I got that one for 80€ - retail price is 140€ Lotus is a Spanish brand which is owned by Festina group. Lotus in general makes good quality sports watches.
Fossil FS4736was my first steel watch which I got for 90€ - retail price 160€. Fossil started with watchmaking in the USA but now is making all different kind of jewelery. I like the brand but at first I was worried if it was an overpriced fashion watch brand. I found out that they sell decent watches at a reasonable price but you have to keep in mind that they sometimes CAN be overpriced.
Orient FTV02003D0 was my 3rd watch. God I love this one so badly. Orient in general is a great Japanese timepiece maker which you definitley should know about! (Orient, Seiko, Casio are the big three names). For 150€ I got it from amazon - retail is 350€.
Elysee zelos 98000was my first dress watch. I got it for 26€ - retail is 200€. I don‘t know if it is really worth 200€ but Elysee is 100% made in Germany so I can‘t tell anything bad about it.
Accurist 7124was my 2nd dress watch bc I needed one in black too. I really don‘t know why I overlooked that brand so long. This watch is the best dresswatch avaliable for under 100€. I got it for 50€ - retail is 90€. It easily keeps pace with the Elysee which looks gorgeous already. Accurist is a brand from London and I have to say they really don‘t feel like cheap or china watches. They have very good reviews all over the internet and it seems to be they are well known in London.
Casio MDV 106 is one of my latest gems. It took me ages to find a retailer which ships to germany/austria for a reasonable price. Finally I found one and got it for 70€+taxes and shipping from US. Sadly it is not sold in Europe anylonger so keep the Casio if you have one. I changed the Rubberband with a 3D steel bracelet. It looks epic! (but honestly I really liked the rubber band too)
Last arrival for a Beater watch in my collection is the (Aviator F-Series AVW78341G351It is a little bit like the MDV Duro but with pepsi cola coloring. I got it for 80€ - Retail is listed 200€ but you get it everywhere for 80$/€ At first I wasn´t so fond of the "military" touch but I really have to say this watch is pretty darn good. Great weight, great glance, rotating bezel, lume, 200m WR and so on. What i also like is that they are made from Volmax. The downside is that Volmax has licenced Aviator to manufacture watches elsewhere so, like my watch, it isn´t russian or swiss made. But aside from that it really has great quality. Definitley my beater watch now
The following three are in my collection bc I got them for free/the Orphelia very cheap. Otherwise they wouldn‘t be in my collection but I too like them nontheless.
Burei Traveler Burei Jedir I like Burei but I have to say they probably are china watches. They keep good time, look good but have no decent history. It is said that they are founded by a swiss watchmaker but I cannot believe that.
Orphelia Unico 38mm. It cost me 30€ - retail 90€. I really like the watch bc it has a magnetic mesh band (keep in mind never let your watch near magnetism. Magnetism is a silent killer for watches - the orphelia is stored elsewhere!) Sadly I can‘t recommend Orphelia bc it is just some heavily overprice china manufacturer. It tells it is a Belgium brand in the hands of different family members over generations but that is plain bullshit. Apart from the Orphelia unico I tried 3 different watches from that brand but I was really disappointed with the quality.
Some I tried but were send back:
BesWLZ- horrible instawatch. Can‘t recommend any bit of it.
Burei Dress watchactually I liked that watch at the beginning but I never felt it looked like a high quality watch. There are watches like the CASIO MDV which feels more lot like 50$ but with this one you really saw that it cost 30€ and I don´t like that.
Orphelia Simplicityon my hunt for a good looking black dress watch I had the orphelia simplicity before I found the Accurat 7124. I got it for 40€ so it was kinda good deal but I had the same problem with it like I had with the Burei dress watch. It felt better like the Burei one but I wasn´t pleased 100%. I can´t say it is not worth 40€ but it definitley isn´t worth 110€
Orphelia SterlingOrphelia Ivoire Horrible quality. They feel and look like watches you get from vending machines.
Daniel Wellington sheffield - I didn‘t know the brand at first and I found it for 80€ instead 200€ so I tried it. Then I learned more about watches and the history behind DW. Bc it had one major flaw - the glass on the inside was dirty - i send it back. I probably would have kept it if it were perfect bc of my first rule „keep what you like“. But the dirty glass + history of the brand was the reason why I could send it back without heartpain. DW would be really nice otherwise BUT over DW I have to recommend Accurist
Lorus RH939GX9 - it is a Seiko brand - it is a good watchbrand but I got the casio MDV 106. Sadly it lost against the Aviator.
Seiko SNDC33P1Orient RA-KV0303B10B Great looking watches but too tiny for my wrist (I got 18-19cm). Dress watches work perfectly with 40mm but chronographs are too tiny for me with 40mm
So for now that was all. I still have space for 1 more Quartz watches in my watchbox but I don‘t know with which watches/styles/brands I should fill it up (Timex, seiko, skagen, vostok?) I would be happy for recommendatios and opinions!
