Legend of the East Outfit/Challenges as ARTHUR Tips & Resources [2.7.2021 v.1.26]

Hey all, on my first playthrough and I got completely and utterly side-tracked from the story to pursue the LOTE outfit because I enjoy side quests and challenges and doing things you’re not supposed to do (despite Rockstar’s best efforts) a little too much. I’ve been helped so much by the RDR2 Reddit and YouTube communities that I wanted to give back a little and also help those who have just started playing this amazing game a couple years late like me.
Note: There may be minor spoilers for Chs.2 & 3 below!
There are so many great resources out there, that I don’t intend for this to be a detailed comprehensive guide, but mostly a compilation of helpful tips & resources I’ve picked up along the way on this long adventure. I completed the challenges as early as possible in Ch.3 as Arthur as of 2/7/2021 in version 1.26 on a PS4 Pro, so it’s still possible!
Arthur, you deserve this.
I completed all of the challenges after the Fisher of Men mission in Ch.2 except for those locked behind other missions. Sharpshooter challenges 6-10 are locked behind The Sheep and the Goats, since you acquire a long-scoped rifle in that mission (though there are tricks to get a Rolling Block Rifle even earlier). Bandit challenges 6-10 are locked behind Horse Flesh for Dinner, since that’s where you unlock the horse fence.
I’ll note some ways you can be efficient and you may notice that I tried to frequent the same areas for a lot of the challenges: Little Creek Valley/Hanging Dog Ranch, Emerald Ranch, the big island across from Clemens Point

Bandit Tips
I’m doing a high honor playthrough, so this guide was my main starting point.
Here are my additional tips:
Bandit 1 - Hold up 5 townsfolk
Do this in Van Horn (no law around), note that some citizens are armed and will shoot at you, but you can just run away and come back.
Bandit 3 - Rob the cash register in any 4 shops in one day
I followed this guide to avoid a bounty. You won’t get any money though.
Bandit 5 - Amass $250 bounty in one state
If you start the challenges as early as possible as I did, save the Blessed are the Meek? mission for this challenge. You should get the $250 bounty easy.
Bandit 7 - Rob $50 worth of cash and valuables from townsfolk and travelers
Unfortunately I had already been pickpocketed in St. Denis twice (tailor and gunsmith) and I couldn’t get the Van Horn pickpocket to trigger (saloon), so I did the Annesburg station to the long tunnel trick for an easy no bounty robbery.
Bandit 8 - Steal 7 wagons and sell them to the Fence at Emerald Ranch
I used this tip from the comments in the main guide I used to make it go faster:
The Emerald Ranch stagecoach loop doesn't even require a camp where you "don't" sleep. I leave the fence and sprint full speed via the railroad tracks. You will not see the stagecoach respawned yet, but when I am close to the train station, at about the lone tree on the right hand side, I turn my back on where the stagecoach should be and when I turn around it has materialized.
It didn’t always work, so I did have to use the no sleep trick from the guide for some of the coaches.
Bandit 9 - Hogtie someone and leave them on the railroad 3 times
You can actually just use the same person three times. Cut them free, let them run around a little bit, tackle and hogtie them and drop them on the track again. I just used an O’Driscoll.
Bandit 10 - Rob 5 trains
I used this tip from the comments in the linked guide. I didn’t lose honor at all and there was no bounty:
I have found that all you have to do for a train robbery to count is to just take anything at all. You don't have to rob any people at all! I just went to the second-to-last car and took a can of fruit or pack of cigarettes, rinsed and repeated.

Explorer Tips
This one is super easy. I used the PowerPyx guide though most online guides should be fine.
The only potentially tricky part is getting the High Stakes Treasure Map guy to spawn. You can see potential spawn points in the PowerPyx guide. I actually ran into him twice and let him ride off before getting the map from him the third time, so it is possible to run into him at least three times. Each time was around Strawberry and Wallace Station. To get the map, I ran full speed at him and bumped him and the map went into my inventory (no honor loss).

Gambler Tips
This guide was my main starting point.
Gambler 4 - Bust one poker location out in each location
My only tip to make this faster is to sit at a table with a lot of players. You can always ride away and come back and the table will reset. Target those with less money.
Gambler 5 - Win 3 rounds of dominoes without drawing any tiles against 2 or fewer opponents
I recommend Emerald Ranch for all Domino challenges as Draw is the easiest to learn and play.
Gambler 8 - Win three hands of Blackjack with three hits or more
I got super lucky on this one (15 minutes), so good luck! I don’t know if the game rewarded me for this, but I didn’t just hit if it didn’t make sense (like if I started with two face cards). Definitely hit with aces as they can count for either 1 or 11. I think my three wins came when I started with an ace and a low number card.
Gambler 9 - Win three games of dominoes in a row
I recommend Emerald Ranch, but especially when there is only one opponent (ride away and come back if there are two). Try and keep track of the numbers and if you can, play the same numbers at the end of the snake that have mostly been used up. This can cause your opponent to draw nearly all of the remaining tiles and get you a lot of points and an easy win. I think one time I got 60+ points in one round. Definitely stand up and leave if you are about to lose, but on your turn, not your opponent’s turn or else it’ll be too late.
Gambler 10 - Win three hands of Poker in a row
Several people suggested Flatneck Station for this one or your camp, but Flatneck Station was what worked for me. Every time I went all-in at camp, someone else did too instead of folding.

Herbalist Tips
Fairly easy challenges that really don’t require much guidance, except for the infamous Herbalist 9, see below.
Herbalist 9 - Pick one of each species of herb
Ah yes, the four herbs (Wild Feverfew, Blackcurrant, Red Sage, Desert Sage) that are the only things standing between Arthur and the LOTE outfit.
The two main methods to get the four herbs in New Austin are with a covered wagon or a St. Denis buggy. I believe Unlockable Eden Gaming pioneered the method, but these are the guides I found most helpful.
  1. Petko’s Getting Into and Driving Around New Austin (Buggy Method)
  2. Petko's Picking Plants in New Austin (Buggy Method)
  3. Dmitry Shepel’s Plant Locations (Wagon Method)
  4. Jimbotron’s Detailed and Comprehensive Guide (Wagon Method)
Though it sounds like many have been successful with the wagon (and the Jimbotron video makes some good arguments for the wagon), I opted for the buggy for several reasons.
  1. Availability – I tried some of the tricks to spawn the covered wagon consistently and it was never that consistent. It never took me more than a minute to get a buggy from St. Denis. I figured even though the distance from St. Denis to New Austin was much farther, there was less frustration and the amount of time between runs was probably about the same as I was not spending time saving and reloading or sleeping or running around Strawberry to get the wagon to spawn. Unfortunately, I had completed the Appleseed Timber Co. sidequests so their wagon was unavailable. Maybe I would have felt differently if I could have used their wagon.
  2. Speed & Maneuverability – The buggy is faster and much easier to maneuver than the wagon. It makes getting in New Austin much easier and also avoiding the law easier.
  3. Camera Control – This may be a personal preference, but I never had a problem with the camera zooming in on Arthur with the buggy, while with the wagon it seemed to zoom in on him much more frequently.
My personal experience with Herbalist 9:
After a couple of unsuccessful runs with both the buggy and the wagon (either getting randomly sniped or shot up by lawmen in New Austin), I decided to just stick with the buggy. My first successful run I picked 3 out of the 4 plants, which was exciting. I died when I went over a small drop, ejecting me from the buggy which resulted in getting sniped in the head. My second run I picked the last plant (Desert Sage—it spawns the furthest in) and went for the Prairie Poppy instead of doing the Blackwater campfire method, so I can’t comment on how effective that method is.
My personal tips for Herbalist 9:
Crossing the Blackwater region into New Austin
Driving in New Austin
Picking Plants
I definitely recommend keeping track of the herbs you’ve picked somewhere (I used OneNote on my phone). For the rest of the plants I used PowerPyx again.
Herbalist 10 - Season and cook all 11 types of meat
Probably the only two meats I had to go out of my way a little bit to get were:
  1. Exotic Bird Meat – I got mine from a pelican at the Annesburg docks
  2. Crustacean Meat – Took a canoe to the island off of Clemens Point (where the iguanas are) and killed a crab there

Horseman Tips
Overall a fairly easy set of challenges. I did all of them with my white Arabian that I got very early on. I don’t have much to add to what’s out there except for the following tips:
Horseman 4 - While mounted, drag a victim for 3300 feet using your lasso
For high honor, just grab an O’Driscoll or Lemoyne Raider and they will definitely die, but just keep going until the challenge pops.
Horseman 7 - Kill 7 enemies from horseback without dismounting
Use a gang hideout. I used Six-Point Cabin.
Horseman 8 - Kill 9 predators from horseback
Gators in the bayou are the way to go.
Horseman 9 - Ride from Van Horn to Blackwater in less than 17 minutes without touching any water
I found this guide to be the most helpful.
You definitely need to stock up on Potent Health Tonics (though I probably used only around 3-5) and I would disagree with the guide in just taking a straight path through Tall Trees. Only go off the roads once you get to the plains of Blackwater as it’s easy to hit a rock or tree if you go off the road in the Tall Trees region (which is why I failed my first run). Honestly stick to the roads if it’s easier for you and don’t be afraid to take the Health Tonics liberally. In my experience it’s pretty hard for the Pinkertons to kill you if you’re taking the tonics and riding fast, even if you stick to the roads. It’s way better to waste some tonics than dying or going off road and falling and then having to restart the run. I was able to do this on my second run.
Horseman 10 - Break every wild horse breed
First off, I got every horse without having to go to Blackwater or go off map. Here’s where I got mine.
https://preview.redd.it/b1xa2jqymeg61.jpg?width=3840&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=660aab100e1546cea46f6866701cc82f88a10fb9
If you have any trouble breaking horses, I found that this tip has never failed me: Just hold the stick in the 5 o’clock position while spamming the calm button.

Master Hunter Tips
Hunting was my first love in RDR2, so I have a soft spot for these challenges. Also this was the first set I completed. Most are pretty straightforward.
Master Hunter 6 - Kill 5 cougars with your bow, then skin them
I used this guide for consistent cougar spawns. The only comment I have is that the cougar won’t always spawn by the rock, but will sometimes spawn further up.
If you’re trying to knock out the challenges as quickly as possible, be careful when using poison arrows. Incapacitating a cougar with a poison arrow and then killing it with your knife won’t count as an arrow kill. You can however walk up to the dying cougar and headshot it with an arrow (I recommend Improved Arrows) to have it count toward the challenge. A clean headshot with an Improved Arrow is my preference over shooting it with poison arrows as it’ll yield a perfect pelt more consistently in my experience.
Master Hunter 7 - Use bait to lure and kill both a herbivore and predator
The interesting note is that boars count as predators. I killed a deer and a boar for this challenge.
Master Hunter 8 - Catch 3 small fish without using a fishing rod
I used a bow and arrow as I think dynamite lowers your honor.

Sharpshooter Tips
Sharpshooter 3 - Kill 5 flying birds while on a moving train
The only important tip is to make sure the train is moving. If you are reported for disturbing the peace (which will often happen once you start shooting) the train will slow and stop and your kills won’t count. There’s no point is trying to shoot more birds once that happens, so just run away and try again.
Sharpshooter 4 - Kill someone at 80 feet away with a tomahawk
I used a random four-person O’Driscoll camp. The key tip in my experience is using an Improved or Homing Tomahawk. I used a Homing. When I used a regular, it would miss pass 80 ft. Here’s the Reddit tip I used:
The way I did it is to have a full deadeye meter. Go into it, tag the targets head at the furthest range you can, then just back up while staying in deadeye. As long as he's not charging at you, when the meter runs out, he'll throw it and still get the kill, well past 80ft away.
Sharpshooter 5 - Kill 6 animals without switching or reloading your weapon
I did this on a bunch of turkeys and random animals near Emerald Ranch. You can go into Deadeye once, but don’t go into it again or else you’ll reload. Also pairs wells with Survivalist 3.
Sharpshooter 6 - Kill someone at least 660 feet away with a long scoped rifle
Based on a tip I found elsewhere (can't remember the source), I went to this island in the middle of the Little Creek River and shot the guard on the windmill platform at Hanging Dog Ranch using a Rolling Block Rifle. Easy peasy.
https://preview.redd.it/s4ztr2veneg61.jpg?width=3840&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4caf452066d9167d58b2d6e6cb4e1a3e636fdc84
Sharpshooter 7 - Get 7 headshots in a row
Right after Sharpshooter 6, I stayed in the area and killed 7 deer or pronghorns around Little Creek Valley. It’s easier than human enemies in my opinion and you can skin in between kills without resetting the counter (can’t pass up the extra vension).
Sharpshooter 8 - Disarm 3 enemies without reloading or switching your weapon
Based on other’s people’s advice, I went to Cornwall Kerosene & Tar and l and went up this hill near the guards. I pulled out my Lancaster repeater that I modified with a short scope and shot one of the guards in the elbow. Then I ran away up the hill until the red enemy indicator disappeared. Rinse and repeat.
https://preview.redd.it/fb60ybfaoeg61.jpg?width=3840&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=44d621eebcde95c954eef72eff114018d974d333
Probably could just as easily work on the front gate guards at Hanging Dog Ranch, but I had to go to Valentine anyways to get a scope from the gunsmith.
Sharpshooter 9 - Shoot 3 people’s hats off in the same Dead Eye use
Although I did have Level 3 Dead Eye at this point, this guide works great for those with Level 2 Dead Eye and there's no bounty!
Sharpshooter 10 - Kill 3 flying birds with 3 consecutive long scoped rifle shots
This does not have to be in the same Dead Eye, so it’s really not bad. I did this near Annesburg, since I had just finished Sharpshooter 9, but Emerald Ranch is probably a good location since it has lots of birds and other guides mentioned north of St. Denis, since herons are large and fly slower than other birds.

Survivalist Tips
Survivalist 3 - Kill 5 animals with a varmint rifle
Pairs well with Sharpshooter 5, see above.
Survivalist 4 - Craft a dynamite, fire, improved, poison, and small game arrow
See a pamphlet location guide for the pamphlets. Just remember to read them!
Survivalist 6 - Kill a scavenging animal while it is feeding a corpse 5 times
This is great to pair with Weapons Expert 3. Kill an animal and then tomahawk the ravens or birds of prey that come. I recommend Emerald Ranch area as it’s very open and there is plenty of wildlife near the Heartland Overflow.
Survivalist 7 - Kill 8 small game animals with consecutive shots, using small game arrows
By the way, you can’t save and reload if you miss, it’ll reset the counter. It has to all be done in one go. The location that seemed pretty easy for me was again the island west of Clemens Point where you find iguanas. When I went to the shipwreck location on that island, a group of crows kept on circling in the area and I was able to grab most of my kills there. Don’t shoot the iguanas as they often won’t die from one small game arrow. Go for birds and if you’re looking for perfect snake pelts you can risk some water snakes near the shipwreck.
Survivalist 8 - Craft a homing tomahawk, improved tomahawk, volatile dynamite, and volatile fire bottle
Again, refer to a pamphlet location guide. The only tricky material here is the owl feather for the Homing Tomahawk. I found mine at night near Emerald Ranch. They can circle overhead or one can be sitting in the loft window of the barn.
Survivalist 9 - Catch a fish that weighs at least 19 lbs
If you’re going for early completion, most likely you haven’t caught all the Legendary Fish at this point. Save one of the big ones to easily complete this challenge. But if you have caught all the Legendary Fish already, don’t despair, I actually caught a couple fish for Survivalist 10 that were over 19 lbs.
Three helpful fishing tips:
  1. You can go into your accessibility options and change the reel button to be a simple button press (Square on the PS4) rather than rotating your stick.
  2. When the fish is not fighting, flick your stick down to pull the fish toward you then release, pause, and then repeat. You’ll make big gains in distance each time.
  3. This may seem obvious, but don’t cast the line too far out unless necessary. Don’t make the battle longer than needed.
My first legendary fish legit took like 10 minutes, but after reading about how to fish more efficiently and implementing the tips above, fishing even the largest fish took like a minute or two tops.
Survivalist 10 - Catch one of each type of fish throughout the world
You could knock out most of the Legendary Fish in pursuit of this goal, but if you’re going for a quicker completion (as I was), I just used these fishing maps and only picked up Legendary Fish if they were nearby or if I had trouble catching a particular species.

Weapons Expert Tips
Stocking up on Potent Health Cures is recommended as running into a gang hideout and hogtying everyone can make a lot of these challenges super easy. Hanging Dog Ranch and Six Point Cabin are great locations to get these done.
Weapons Expert 1 - Kill 3 enemies with a knife
I only had one knife kill from an earlier mission, so I went to Six Point Cabin, popped a Potent Health Cure and stabbed some fools.
Weapons Expert 2 - Kill 3 enemies in 10 seconds using only throwing knives
After Weapons Expert 1 popped in my assault on Six Point Cabin, I cleared out the camp except for four guys, hogtied them, and went for headshots for an easy completion.
Weapons Expert 3 - Kill 3 birds of prey using only a tomahawk
Pair this Survivalist 6 to be efficient since ravens count as birds of prey.
Weapons Expert 4 - Kill 10 enemies with a shotgun using crafted ammo
I returned to Six Point Cabin and used Incendiary Buckshot. You can get the pamphlet at Copperhead Landing.
Weapons Expert 5 - Kill 5 mounted enemies, using 1 throwing knife per kill
This is probably not so helpful, but I did this during a mission (Pouring Forth Oil IV) as I didn’t want to stir up trouble into order to get lawmen or bounty hunters coming after me. A lot of missions involve mounted enemies, so if you want to avoid unnecessary bounties and keep a high honor, I recommend doing this challenge through missions.
Weapons Expert 6 - Kill 4 enemies at the same time with a single stick of dynamite
I did another run at Six Point Cabin, and went crazy hogtying people to do this challenge and the next one. You can use a Volatile Dynamite if you’re worried about getting all four at once as it has a wider range. I stacked five guys just to be safe.
Weapons Expert 7 - Kill 4 consecutive enemies by throwing and retrieving the same tomahawk
I lined up five hogtied guys and used an Improved Tomahawk for an easier kill, though if you aim for the head it shouldn’t matter. Some people mentioned that it’s best only to have one in your inventory so the game doesn’t accidentally replace the one you’re picking up, but I had multiple Improved Tomahawks and it wasn’t really an issue.
Weapons Expert 8 - Kill 15 enemies using a long-barreled sidearm
Make sure to modify one of your pistols with a long barrel at the Gunsmith. I went to Hanging Dog Ranch to do this one as there are more enemies. I cleared out the place, but I would recommend against doing that as it’ll take a few days for the whole gang to come back. I recommend killing half of the required count, riding away and coming back, so that the whole gang respawns. Then complete rest of the challenge and ride away again. If you do this, it’ll flow right into the next challenge.
Weapons Expert 9 - Kill 9 unaware enemies from behind, using the bow
Approach Hanging Dog Ranch from the west and use Improved Arrows if you want to ensure your kills, though Regular Arrows should work fine. There are two easy kills. One is the O’Driscoll that wanders outside of the stables. Make sure his back is at least mostly turned to you (head-on kills won’t count). The other is the guard on the windmill platform who is always in the same stationary position. You should get at least two kills each time, though you can sometimes get more depending on the patrol patterns.
Weapons Expert 10 - Kill a grizzly bear without taking damage, using only throwing knives
There’s a consistent grizzly spawn point not too far east of Hanging Dog Ranch between Watson’s Cabin and Wallace Station, so you can flow right into this challenge after the last one. Here’s what I did. I let the grizzly charge me, went into Dead Eye and threw a Poison Throwing Knife to incapacitate him. Then I switched to an Improved Throwing Knife and did a headshot. Boom. Done.

Bonus: Silver Dapple Pinto MFT in Chapter 2
I don’t think the Moonstone Pond glitch works any more as of 1.26. I tried for about an hour and could never get it to work.
The Arcadia for Amateurs – III method does work though! I didn’t have any luck with the tracking method, though from YouTube comments, it looks like people aren’t having any trouble even as of last week. Here’s the method I used and it was pretty easy. I was able to do it on the first try.

Thanks for reading and now it's time to do other things in the wonderful world of RDR2!

Batman: Three Jokers – After-issue Post 3 – Final Breakdown and Theories - (SPOILERS)

Three Jokers
This is Part 3 of my After-Issue posts:
After-Issue Post 1
After-Issue Post 2
I wasn’t sure if I was going to make this at first, but after reading the final issue, I just had to. Like the last two, I’ll break down the issue, find some references/easter eggs, theorize and give my thoughts.
I thought there wouldn’t be much left to theorize but fortunately for me, there’s still quite a ton. I recognize that reception is a bit more mixed, but I personally really enjoyed this book with a few minor disappointments IMO. I’ll get into that.
This’ll also be my big farewell to this series after theorizing on it for almost two years. So, I know I’ve said it before, but this is the biggest post I’ve made, ever.

I. The Briefing

The issue begins with the trio, after a brief fight, putting aside their differences and finally focusing on detective work. Something hinted at last issue with Bruce looking into his leads on the Jokers.
Credit to u/XxRambo-ApocalypsexX for the following image from his post:
https://www.reddit.com/DCcomics/comments/jj7ixa/comic_excerpt_flashbacks_batman_three_jokers_3/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

Flashbacks
First let’s break down each.
The first we see is the Criminal, who Bruce confirms is the first he encountered and points out his more serious and focused personality. A calculating mastermind indeed.
The flashback is from a panel in Batman #1 (1940, the Joker’s first appearance), specifically the very first Joker story (there are two in this issue).
If you’ve been following my posts, this should be familiar as I pointed it out in the first post as Jason Fabok teased this on Twitter earlier this year.

I called it!
As I said last time, this means that the original version of their encounter takes precedence over Man Who Laughs retconned version. Dick Grayson is now once again already Robin, so the Criminal likely stole jewels as well as murder his victims. His conflicts with organized crime may also be back.
Next up is the Clown, and we once again see a reference to Gaggy (the Original Court Jester and Sidekick of the Joker) and his first appearance in Batman #186 (1966). The way Bruce describes him of course matches what we know, and also very much reminds me of Mark Hamill’s Joker. Like I said in the first post, he’s my personal favorite, even if he’s the least in depth as a character.
But finally, here we have the Comedian.
Credit to u/WarWolf343. It is the obvious choice, and that actually adds a lot to the Comedian in the end which I’ll get to. Of course, that means that Rebirth image was inaccurate after all.
The implication of this of course is that Scott Snyder’s run IS considered canon to this story (which is a given if this is in main continuity), meaning Zero Year is canon. The story featuring a new version of the Red Hood gang, with Red Hood One being a true criminal mastermind, not a decoy, leading several Red Hoods. This could explain how there could be more than 3 Jokers if Bruce only had 1 encounter with RH.
Bruce points out a level of sadism under his smile that’s different from the others. I can see where’s he coming from. To me, that smile just looks fake compared to the Clown, who looks genuinely happy. Just my thoughts.

II. The Confrontation at the Monarch Theatre

\"Joker The Immortal\"
Next up we have the climax taking place in the Monarch Theatre, the cinema Bruce watched Mark of Zorro in with parents that fateful night.
Sound familiar?
We’ve had similar Joker confrontations happen in both Arkham City and recently in Joker War.
Jw’s wasn’t quite a climax as it took place in the middle of the arc, and there’s also a horde of zombies that Bruce sees as Jokers (and so fights them blindfolded). Funny similarities there but I doubt any of this is intentional. 3 Jokers was written long ago and Jason Fabok and James Tynion IV both support the idea that Joker War was made without any knowledge or consideration of 3 Jokers.
However, I’d like to talk more about Arkham City.
This was also the big ending of the game. I still remember playing it for the first time. Here, the Joker died after accidentally preventing Bruce from curing him. This was after it was revealed that he was still poisoned and that there was a second healthy Joker which was Clayface in disguise.
Hmmm. Sounds familiar.
Does this live up to those two?
IMO? Absolutely. Jason Fabok and Brad Anderson make this a fiery climactic battle while Geoff Johns does, IMO, a great job tying up what he’s set up since #1 (get to that in a bit).
The Joker’s death in AC was of course more impactful than the Criminal’s, but his and the Comedian’s plan here was great and the twist is just as good. I’ll get to that in a bit.
Lastly, Geoff Johns apparently has advised on Origins and Knight’s stories. Knight of course has the weakest, but IMO the character arcs in Origins makes it the best. The way there were “multiple Jokers” in Knight and City might have inspired him to make this. Also, both City and Knight has at least one line from thugs talking about there being or possibly being Three Jokers.
This could be a whole post on its own so better go back to the book.
The Criminal Joker reveals he wants to turn Joe Chill into the new Joker.
As I’ve said before, Jason Fabok points to Jack Nicholson’s Joker as an inspiration for him, who killed the Waynes and not Chill. Because of that, Michael Keaton’s Batman then aimed to kill him for revenge.
This confirms he did not hire Chill (who is not a hired killer).
Now, why would the Criminal want to do that….

III. Batman’s Greatest Scar

This book made clear from the very first pages and in interviews with GJ and JF that the main theme is about scars. Physical and emotional.
This in fact the whole purpose of the scars montage with Bruce.
He’s had many, many scars from his rogues gallery, but we see that the Joker has caused them the most.
But no matter what, the scar caused by Joe Chill will always be deeper than the others.
More than Penguin, Bane, Scarecrow, Riddler, Catwoman…
More than the Joker
Well, from the Joker(s)’ point of view, that’s just not right.
To the Criminal, this meant he had to fix the Joker. To make a new one that’ll far surpass him, his other two “apprentices”, and mean more to Batman than ever. Someone “far younger and more powerful” maybe (more on the Sith Lords later)?
He’s old and tired. He can’t even laugh without crying over the pain. He wants the Joker reborn better than ever, mattering more to Batman than ever, so he could finally rest.
In my last post, I pointed this out as the motivation for the Joker and recalled how Jeremiah Valeska (Proto-Joker 2) from Gotham had a similar gripe with it.

“I want to be the star of the show!”
So what did HE do to try and fix that?
Reenact the Wayne murders with Jim Gordon and Leslie Thompkins, complete with Crime Alley, pearls and Bruce being there to see it of course!
Now, both plans have flaws.
All Jeremiah is doing with this rehash would be to remind Bruce of that original trauma anyway. Even if Selina wasn’t there to stop him, this probably won’t make him mean more to Bruce than Joe Chi- err- Matches Malone (see: Gotham).
Unlike the Jokers in this book, Jeremiah failed to realize that Bruce will never be more broken from what he can do over than what Chill/Malone did.
The Criminal would be pulling a Batman ’89, as Bruce would know the Joker’s identity. Something the Comedian doesn’t want.
Which leads me to the twist on what the Comedian’s plan was, and to me it was genius and out of the box. Far surpassing Jeremiah and the Criminal.
He didn’t rehash or steal that trauma.
He took it out of the equation entirely.
He. Healed. It.
“It wasn’t the Joker that was broken. It was the Batman”
-more on that quote later
After the Criminal failed to turn his new potential successor, he planned to kill him and Batman instead, only for the Comedian to shoot him dead.
The Comedian was playing him all along in a plan to become the last remaining, definitive Joker and become the worst source of suffering Batman has ever had. Something foreshadowed last issue when the Criminal confirmed that it was his suggestion to reveal their secret.
And in the end?
It worked.
And it would only not work if Bruce didn’t have forgiveness in his heart.
It was checkmate.

BRIEF DETOUR
An evil master (cough Darth Sidious/Emperor Palpatine) failing to turn a prospective apprentice/successor (cough Mark Hamill cough), then deciding to kill said person only to be betrayed and killed by his current apprentice who tended to plan behind his back (cough Vader)? His other apprentice (The Clown and Dooku) being killed by another younger, edgier prospective apprentice (Jason/Anakin) before this?
Sorry I just had to bring that up lol. I haven’t watched Mandalorian S2’s premiere yet to not get distracted from this or my IRL responsibilities which also delayed this.
But seriously, the Criminal emphasizing the rule of threes (which is actually a real thing) last issue did remind me of the rule of two. His search for a successor and his traitorous relationship with his protégés here really, really made me see them like Sith Lords lol.
DETOUR ENDS HERE

u/Hmz_786 and I discussed before about how the Comedian could have been planning to betray the Criminal and the others all along. Maybe even seeing the Clown’s death coming. It seems that may be the case after all. Which I will delve into more later.
Besides Jack Napier from Batman ’89 and Jeremiah Valeska from Gotham, one Joker that I got reminded of in this was John Doe from Telltale’s Batman and Batman: Enemy Within. His last lines to Bruce in the Villain ending (there are 2 versions depending on your choice of dialogue to him) evoke the themes of this story or parallel what the Comedian says here.

(“Sure we’ve had some good times”) “I hope you’ll look at that scar and remember those good times”

(“I wish we never met”) “I’ll be the knife on your side until the end of time”
Back to Bruce and Joe Chill.
Definitely the best part of the issue and this story, is Bruce forgiving Joe Chill and healing his greatest scar. I’ve seen people say this has been done before. That’s true, but never exactly like this, not quite to this extent.
He didn’t forgive him in his mind as an old man after witnessing a new gang of criminals act far worse than him. He didn’t just spare him and leave him to die by either suicide or murder by his fellow criminals or to just rot in poverty.
This Joe Chill was truly remorseful, dying of cancer and wasn’t active as a criminal anymore.
Bruce stayed by his side and held his hand as he passed.
This is the most positive closure Bruce has ever had with Joe Chill, ever IMO.

“Forgiveness is Freedom”
So, the Comedian Joker won.
He healed Bruce’s greatest scar.
He killed the Criminal and became the last Joker.
But most of all, the ambiguity behind who the Joker is remains.
Or does it?

IV. The Joker’s Name

One thing I brought up in my last post is that the Comedian hates memory and remembering the past.
Since he is the Endgame Joker after all, that means he likes to tell his false origins as supernatural, demonic or nightmare fuel stories that prey on his victims (the back up stories).
Which in retrospect, fits with the idea that he doesn’t want people to know about his tragic past. He wants people to think he’s chaos incarnate, but he’s not.
Which is why in Death of the Family, he panicked and fell when Bruce claimed he knew his real name, which would prove he was human.
Then in Darkseid War, Bruce got the Mobius Chair.
He asked it two questions. One rhetorical for a test, and the other we assumed wasn’t. He asked who killed his parents and then asked what was the Joker’s real name, only to learn the premise of this very story. There were Three Jokers.
Here we learn that Bruce DID know the Joker’s name all this time. This means that it was also a test (which Jason Fabok has confirmed on Twitter to multiple people).
Let’s go back to The Killing Joke
The Joker attempted to drive Jim Gordon insane to prove his absurd, nihilistic thesis that life is a joke and anyone can see that just like he did by going through “One Bad Day”. Which in turn is to prove to Batman that they are alike and that he should be insane just like him.
Thing is…

He failed.
Jim wasn’t driven mad. Bruce wasn’t convinced and instead tried giving a counteroffer of rehabilitation. But the Joker refuses because he thinks A) He’s too far gone and B) He doesn’t trust that Bruce will keep the light on and commit to doing it.
The Joker did not prove his point and yet couldn’t accept an alternative hypothesis. If this was an official social experiment for research, he’d get an F (and then get kicked out and thrown in jail for unethical human testing without consent).
And really the flashbacks themselves prove it.
The flashbacks take more than one day. He was a struggling comedian in poverty and at times vented this on his wife.
No, that is not an invention of this book. That panel is directly adapted from TKJ.
We don’t see more from this scene in 3 Jokers, so it’s left ambiguous whether they reconciled or not the way we see in TKJ, but I think the latter works still. Even after apologizing the comedian still vented and ranted about his life. He made it clear he wants to get out of there, but he didn’t try more comedy gigs or getting his old job back at ACE.
No, instead he gave in to crime. Not too different from Joe Chill.
Note, there is an unspecified time gap between that scene and his meetings with the criminals.
He’s had 2 in fact.
He had to find them first, possibly introduced to them by the Criminal (more on that later) and then have that first meeting planning the heist and setting him up as a decoy Red Hood. From dialogue, their next meeting will be “next Friday” right before the heist. At least a week has passed then.
“One bad week” doesn’t quite have the same ring to it.
But that’s not the point.
He gave into crime even before the accident and he relied on that to save his family.
What would Jeannie think if she heard about him being willing to associate with criminals?
How would he act toward her in that 1 week where he still hasn’t fixed his life?
Whatever the case, we don’t learn his name
but we do learn that Jeannie lived.
Whatever happened in that lost week, she eventually couldn’t take it anymore and got help from cops to escape. She and her son (who IMO btw has to be 15-20 years old, or at least older than Damian) are alive in Alaska. Which is why Bruce wasn’t looking at missing Comedian files earlier, and instead looked at his globe.
This does feel like a very similar situation to the psychiatrist who tried curing the Joker in Killer Smile, only to end up driving his wife and son away and nearly killing them in the Joker’s plot to make him like him.
We then learn why Bruce can’t reveal his name, and possibly why he can’t kill the Joker.
If he reveals the Joker’s name, people will find his family and they wouldn’t be safe. The Joker would find them too.
As for the latter, if Bruce kills the Joker, he would be taking a father away from his son (more on the son of the Joker in the bonus segment!)
So in the end, Bruce had the last laugh.
He knows the Joker isn’t the devil. He was a man once. He had a wife who he loved before turning to insanity. The Joker failed in keeping the ambiguity behind himself, a week after Bruce fought the Joker (the Criminal?). He failed a long time ago.
And now,
Both refuse to reveal the identity of the other.

V. Is the Joker Broken, or Chaos Incarnate?

Now, a lot of people think this book is painting the Joker as someone who was always bad and that this ruins TKJ. I kind of already talked about that in the previous segment, but here I’d like to bring back an old post I made discussing the conflicting views of the Joker:
From IGN
Alan Moore of course argued for the Joker being a dark reflection of Batman. Both born from tragedy.
but
Frank Miller argued the Joker was pure evil. Satanic even. Evil incarnate. Not insane. Evil.
“I am chaos. I am the devil. I am everything to you and nothing. It wasn’t the Joker who was broken. It was the Batman.”
Putting that quote in that context, it looks like Miller’s version is what’s coming here.
But I don’t think so.
As I’ve pointed out, the Comedian is a liar that takes credit from the other Jokers and pretended he was an immortal supernatural boogieman in Endgame.
This is how he wants to be seen, because he’s afraid of the truth.
In reality, he’s the only one of the Jokers who has a desire outside of Batman and apparently the only one with One Bad Day. The Clown said he loved to take credit, he teased him about being a failed comedian and the Criminal called him out for wasting time with fantasies. They were the ones pushing him down. It was the Criminal trying to get him to focus on what matters.
He almost comes off as the bullied co-worker that gets reminded every time about where he came from and he HATES that. This was his revenge. By killing them and taking credit for all their work. He became the Joker who mattered. Not Chill, the Clown or the Criminal.
“Says the failed Comedian” “There is no her. There is no one else but the Batman”
Clearly, he still loved his wife. Despite him venting to her, she and their unborn son were still the reason for him going insane. Even now he secretly fantasizes them being with them.
Another thing to take note of is that, in both the Killing Joke and Three Jokers,
He NEVER reveals this specific origin to others
It’s always flashbacks and fantasies. When he does tell false origins, it’s always to paint him as this bigger force of chaos. A façade to hide his real past that the other Jokers see right through and belittle him for. With them dead, no one else knows now…except Bruce.
Speaking of which, this makes him more like Batman.
Because the way he wants to be seen by others,
is just like how Batman wants to be seen by criminals
Pretending to be a supernatural force of nature to strike fear is now common among the two victims of trauma. He failed to prove anyone can be like him in TKJ, so he decided to embrace the idea that no one can be like him.
In many ways this also relates to the Joker movie, where Arthur pretended, he killed those people for no reason other than them being awful. Hiding his pain by embracing evil. Of course there’s also the fact that, it hurts when he laughs and likely cannot control it.
I discussed that in the last post, but it’s based on a real condition: Pseudobulbar Affect.
The Criminal’s age makes it, so he cries almost every time. But from what he asked Jason, and the Comedian in Doomsday Clock, I’m betting all the Jokers have this trait to varying effect.
Finally, before moving on, one of the most important things to take note, is that the book spent a lot of time blurring the line between Jokers and victims.
Jokers and Victims
The jokerized Red Hood/Comedian lookalaike at the beginning of the story, the horde of Jokers at the pool, and of course, Jason himself. Being the Joker in this story seems to be about taking your pain and trauma, then inflicting that onto others. Which is again, the exact opposite of Batman, which all about taking that pain, using it to do good and making sure no one else has to face it alone.
In the end, can the Comedian be redeemed?
Maybe. Maybe not. But if even Joe Chill can, maybe one day the Joker can too. Or not
This again reminds me of Telltale Joker (voiced by Anthony Ingruber). One path lets him become a vigilante modeling himself after Batman, but in the end, he just couldn’t change his fate even with Bruce’s help, and he will become a villain anyway unless you offer your friendship to him.
“I really wanted to be a hero you know. But…I-I just can’t!”
I honestly did think we could’ve gotten a redemption for the Joker. I even had a theory (never published) about how Bruce’s new yellow oval having a flashlight as a reference to the titular Killing Joke and him not turning it off. But since this book does want to be canon somehow, it’s stuck from fixing that status quo even if they wanted to.
In the meantime, we have White Knight by Sean Gordon Murphy for those who want it.

VI. Who is the “Real”/Original Joker?

This is definitely something the book, and the Comedian specifically, want to keep ambiguous. But just to theorize, let’s list down the points for and against them.
Case for the Criminal
  1. He states to Jason that he was the first Joker, and that he ran Gotham before Batman.
  2. Bruce confirms he reminds him the most of their earliest confrontations. That briefing scene and the scars montage include flashbacks that clearly feature him as the first.
  3. Why would the Comedian only show up WAY later if he was the original?
  4. IRL he literally is the original Joker.
  5. He is the oldest and his laughing condition has been the worst. He wishes to retire after this.
  6. The captions place as him as number 1.
  7. He’s the only one to not claim to be the “real” Joker, as to him the Joker is an idea. Meaning he’s the only one willing to create new Jokers in the first place. The others don’t want to share the spotlight as both the Clown and Comedian claim to be the definitive Jokers.
  8. The Criminal acts like a boss and strict mentor to the Jokers, specifically the Comedian.
  9. The Comedian, from the first pages he’s introduced to the ending, is a liar.
Case for the Comedian
  1. He is the Joker who Bruce identified the past of a week after their first encounter.
  2. He “has a good eye for talent” meaning he probably did find the others.
  3. His normal-ish life before this and desire to hide it means he has the most to gain by making new Jokers. They hide his identity and teach him various skills. The Criminal can teach him marksmanship and planning. The Clown can teach him to be more creative and actually be funny. Meanwhile he was an ex-chemical engineer who worked at Ace so he has the means.
As you can see, I favor the Criminal, with three times the points as the Comedian’s 3.
However, if ever this becomes fully canon and referenced, there is a 90% chance the others will be retconned into being fake Jokers made for this story and there is an explanation for it.
BUT
What’s the THIRD option?
What if they were all born on the same night? This was hinted at in the first issue with the 3 Red Hoods jokerized. If Zero Year is recanonized, well then that explains how there can be multiple Red Hoods.
The most skilled and experienced at being the Criminal, the Criminal took the lead and taught the other two until they were ready.
The Comedian having the most normal life, made him the easiest and first choice for Bruce to deduce.

VII. Who are the Three Jokers?

How did they become to be?
Now that is a question that’s been in my mind for a long time.
Earlier this year I made several posts about the Three Jokers. Last year made several Doomsday Clock posts which was what got me known.
But before all that?
Almost two years ago now, this book was announced. I was curious.
Whenever I was waiting for a car, bus, commuting or whatever after class, after training or whatever on my way home, I didn’t have anything to do but use my phone. Except I didn’t have data and I grew out of mobile gaming. Usually I bring comics to read, but one day I decided to use that time to type down notes on who I thought the Three Jokers would be. For fun. Who knows maybe I’ll be close?
I used that to also read a lot of old classic Batman-Joker comics and even episodes of BTAS, Batman ’66, Brave and the Bold etc. A few months later, I realized how long it ended up and decided, what the heck, what if I make this an write up and post it on Reddit or something.
And so I posted this:
https://www.reddit.com/DCcomics/comments/a7odrk/my_theory_on_the_three_jokers/
It was really long and REALLY messy. Very outdated too.
I didn’t make anything like it again until the Doomsday Clock stuff, but this was the first. Then a few months ago I did more when the covers were released.
So, without prolonging this any longer, the Three Jokers, who they are and how they came to be:
The Criminal
The Criminal Joker was the original Joker. A calculating and cold criminal mastermind with a method to his madness. He challenges Batman and the police. He likes to mess with gangsters because he hates organize crime. Batman is his ultimate rival. As the oldest of the three, the pain of his laughs has grown to the extent that he cries uncontrollably when doing it. Because of this he rarely laughs and smiles now.
In the past he was a criminal who grew up on the streets of Gotham. He was a rebellious young man who injected chaos onto organized crime. He was skilled in hiding his identity and was smart enough to stay a step ahead. Bank robber, jewel thief, hitman, enforcer, con artist, gambler he’s been them all. Skilled with guns, knives, explosives, poisons and more. The world’s greatest criminal like Batman is the world’s greatest detective. Eventually he rose to the top as a mob boss. He ran Gotham before Batman came in. Due to boredom he created the Red Hood gang. He named himself the Joker after the wildcard, as he planned to rob the Monarch Playing Card company next to Ace Chemicals.
Today due to his old age, he’s the one that looks the most different from the other two and so in the decades since he’s avoided fighting Batman again out in the open. Preferring instead to mentor and boss his successors. His last known appearance was in-universe was War of Jokes and Riddles.
The Clown
The Clown Joker is the classic Joker. A theatrical but murderous prankster-thief with a creativity and charisma that surpasses the others. He only kills when it’s funny. His plans are smart but also outrageous and non-sensical. He loves using gags and trick novelties, at times weaponizing them to be lethal. He recruited Gaggy from a circus as his sideckick but later ditched them and killed his henchmen. He made the Laughing Fish. He killed Jason Todd because it was funny, and it would get to Batman. No real other reason. He doesn’t need a big point. He’d love to have this fun forever if he could.
In the past, he was likely a clown. He might’ve ran away to the join a circus once and met Gaggy there. After that he left to stay in Gotham and tried to be a clown at children’s parties and such. It didn’t work out and he joined the Red Hood Gang as the Criminal’s right hand man. But really he’s the one whose origin we have no clear knowledge on other than his title.
Today he’s the substitute Joker who does the smaller acts for fun and to throw Batman off their trail.

The Comedian
The Comedian Joker is the modern Joker. The one with the most meaning. He believes life is a joke. He’s the most sadistic and crazy Joker. His ability to evolve and change himself is due to his Super-Sanity. He thinks outside the box all the time, even as Batman tries to make a new one around him. He is the most unpredictable and dangerous. His obsession with Batman is the strongest, yet unlike the others it’s ironically not the only thing he wants. Unfortunately, he can never have the other thing, and that’s why he’s the most hateful. Love and Hate are almost the same to him.
In the past, he was a former chemical engineer at Ace chemicals who gave up his job to achieve his dream to be a comedian. It didn’t work out. He was a poor desperate man with a pregnant wife he loved and wanted to provide for but vented his anger on due to stress. He turned to the Criminal and Clown who made him a decoy Red Hood in their gang. Before their heist, his wife left him and faked her death, which broke the man. He didn’t want to do it anymore, but he had no choice.
Today, he’s the main and only Joker left. He’s learned enough from the other two. He surpassed them in intelligence and insanity.
How they look similar?
I believe they are brothers who were separated, not at birth but early in life, taking different paths but ending up in the same place. The Criminal being the eldest at 10 years older than the youngest but looking much older due to his lifestyle pre-Joker. The Clown and the Comedian are possibly twins. That’s how the Comedian found a job with criminals so fast. That’s how they were so familiar with each other. That’s how they (somewhat) trusted each other as Jokers. That’s how Jeannie became horrified and left him. She also likely informed the police of their heist which is how security increased and Batman got there. Which is also likely how Bruce discovered the Comedian so easily. His wife was the one who tipped him and the police off.
But if ever the other two are retconned as fake later, they could always either use:
Why should there even be 3 Jokers in the first place? Super-Sanity is better.
Super-Sanity isn’t mutually exclusive IMO. At least 1 of them has one with the Comedian being Morrison and Snyder’s Joker, but considering how the Clown also changed to be more lethal I’d say he too has it.
What this adds is the ability to give ambiguity to the other two Jokers while giving one a defined origin. You see Alan Moore believed the Joker wasn’t a very good character. I believe it’s partly because he couldn’t have a real origin. TKJ didn’t invent the trope of a mysterious origin for him. That appeared in Dennis O’Neil’s Joker run and Brian Bolland himself says he didn’t originally plan on making an origin for him when he pitched the book. That was Moore’s decision and the main point of TKJ hinges on it being at least generally true. So no gangster Joker who was always evil.
With one Joker having a defined origin, we have a deeper understanding of his character and motivations while still having mystery on the others. With Super-Sanity, the Joker can have an infinite amount of personalities, motivations and fake origins but since we can never know which is real, they might as well all false. Which is what the psychiatrist concluded in Serious House on Serious Earth. “He has no real personality”.

VIII. Who is the Best Joker? Who is my favorite?

Now if we’re going by who’s the most in depth character and best villain, then the Comedian is it. His origin gives meaning and depth to his character and motivations while making him a parallel to Bruce. His rant on the other two sums it up pretty well. He doesn’t want to give the Joker the identity like the Criminal or Tim Burton did. He was more than the Clown.
BUT
He’s not my favorite or best Joker.
u/mojothemobile said it best on a thread I saw earlier. The best Joker is the one you can laugh at as much as be scared off. A hilarious Joker that can make such vile acts seem funny. The kind of the Joker who would try and copyright fish infected by Joker venom, kill people with deadly pranks, make a Christmas special, stalk some guy who cursed at him on the road, attack Gotham with an army of bane-like Titan monsters, pull a fake Joker ga-
“Wait a minute, are you just describing Mark Hamill’s Joker?”
Yup. He had Criminal elements in Mask of the Phantasm, was the Comedian in the Killing Joke movie and maybe Return of the Joker, but in pretty much everything else (BTAS, TNBA, JL, JLU, JL action, Arkham Asylum, City and Knight (Troy Baker was more Comedian in Origins)), the definitive Joker voice played the Clown archetype.
Brave and the Bold and Batman ’66 adapted this Joker well.
Nothing beats the classics. But I understand it’s up to preference.

IX. BONUS ROUND

Did I have any disappointments with the book

Sure. Like I said I almost expected Bruce to try and rehabilitate the Joker again. I did wish we had more closure with Jason and Barabra.
On how little they reveal on the 3 themselves, IMO they gave enough for me to make this so I’m grateful lol but it’s probably necessary to keep ambiguity for it to be canon.
Otherwise a great book for me overall. Is it on the same level as Long Halloween or even Killing Joke?! Maybe not. But I’d personally put this equal to or greater to Hush which has similar strengths and weaknesses. Though not sure where I’d put it compared to DOTF and Endgame, but IMO this is above Joker War for me.
Before moving on, I’d like to add a random bit. The panel in the police car with the light shining on the Joker declaring he’ll be Batman’s pain until they die, absolutely great art. I think this was what Jason Fabok talked about when he said Brad Anderson homage the original colors of TKJ by John Higgins.

What about Jason and Barbara?

Jason, I think had the second most important part just below Batman. His arc is about realizing how close he is to becoming the Joker, and maybe realizing that he might need to find a new identity, which Bruce offers to him. But of course that can’t happen here or they can’t really be in continuity fully.
Barbara doesn’t get to do much but she does act as the heart of the trio who understands both and wants them to reconcile (but. She initially wanted to bring Jason in, but seeing him vulnerable as he was made her understand him more. In turn Jason seeing how she became this way inspires him to be better.

“Don’t tell me you’re a Jaybabs shipper Earthmine!”

Relax I’m not calling for that at all. I’m not really into shipping period and I do think the book could improve without it. But their relationship and parallels are important in this story and I think it was well done.
By the way, I like the idea of Jim knowing Barbara and Barbara knowing he knows.

What about Harley?

Harley in continuity appeared during No Man’s Land. That plus the Comedian wishing he still had Jeannie, means he likely filled that void with Harley, only to be abusive to her. She reminds him too much of Jeannie. Punchline doesn’t though.
I would like to share a theory I’ve had a long time now. In Case Study, it’s reveled that it was Harleen who made the report, concluding the Joker is sane, should be retried and executed. She changed her mind about it after meeting the Joker herself. She discovered the past of the Criminal, but by then he was semi-retired. If the Criminal found out he probably had the Comedian change her mind. The Clown of course likely avoids her since he hasn’t had a sidekick since Gaggy.
So she only worked with, and maybe met, 1 Joker.

Will it Canon?

please don’t sue me Watchtower Database, big fan
So, after all’s said and done, is this canon?
Well it can be. I’d say, in the past of the next new timeline which restores more Pre-New 52 (including Pre-Crisis) history.
I understand reception of this is more mixed than Doomsday Clock (which wasn’t universally loved either) and not everyone, maybe most people, aren’t sold with their being 3 Jokers.
But they can easily retcon that premise out for the other things or once again give multiversal, excuses. There really is a lot of potential to deal with all of this.

Detective Comics #1000: The Last Crime in Gotham

The son of the Joker.
Gee that sounds familiar. Maybe Geoff Johns already used this concept before?
He did! In his short story in ‘Tec 1000. There are plenty of themes of family in this. The Joker died due to the chemicals that created him and somehow his son became just like the father and died too. His last act was a gift to Batman and Gotham. He left a note, emphasizing the importance of family.
Besides that, this possible future includes Barabra and (a) Jason being married and Bruce and Selina having a daughter. Though at the end it’s implied to just be a wish by Bruce.
I recommend reading this after Three Jokers. It serves as a good extra epilogue IMO.

Post-Script

Well that’s it.

Just some ideas from a level 74 about how Red dead online could be made better

Side note reddit should have a save feature that makes it so if you're working on a draft and the app crashes you don't lose all your hard work and have to re write everything. I'm ranking this from most to least important so guns and cosmetic stuff will be lower on the list
JOB IMPROVEMENTS AND NEW JOBS: The jobs could use a few things changed about them to improve them, since after awhile they can get a bit stale. I think that the jobs are the biggest down side to Red dead online since they can get pretty old and the lack of content is what makes this game mode so underwhelming so here's some of my ideas
Bounty hunter: Give us new bounties every month, the old ones are starting to get boring and even up the gold from .24 to .25 it's just, more even and doesn't seem like you're skimming off the top
Moonshiner: Give us an option to make the moonshine ourselves instead of having the French guy do it, waiting for the moonshine to cook is boring so why not give players the option to cook it themselves. Have a minigame where we have to get the temperature right, put in the right stuff and stir it right to make the shine and make it harder the more pricey and high quality the shine
Naturalist: Bump up the payment for legendary animal parts and if you piss of the nature bitch, Gus will give you a discount for making her mad. Also while this isn't fully tied to the role, make sleeping bullets knock out horses, dogs and people. I once killed a dog trying to knock it out and the same thing happened to a person. Sleeping bullets that can knock someone out temporarily with a headshot could a cool addition to the game
Trader: Not much seems to need changing besides maybe bumping up the payment you get from deliveries
Collector: Have auctions where an item is up for sale and you and other plays place bids on it and you don't know it's worth until you buy it
But you saw the second part of what I said and you likely thought it was dumb that I wouldn't want new jobs over reworking old ones and you're right! I wrote that part when I was pissy that all my shit got deleted and didn't care about ranking anything. But without further ado here are my ideas for new jobs!
THE RANCHER: Fulfill your dreams of being a cowboy and own your own ranch! You can become a rancher by going to one of the many cattle ranches throughout the map and buying stock in the farm
•Buy cows and raise them before sending them to the slaughter house for big bucks
•Defend the herd from wild animals like wolves and bears and cattle hustlers
•Raid other players farms and steal their cattle for yourself but beware, these men shoot first and ask questions later
•Milk cows and either use it to make thick creamy stews, flavor your coffee, use it to make moonshine or just drink it straight up
•Find rare and exotic horses and break them, then sell them to the highest bidder or keep them as your own personal trophy
•Buy new rancher gun themes and outfits
THE GAMBLER: Test your luck in games of chance as you explore the world of gambling! Near Saint Denis there is a paddle boat stationed at the docks, once you pay for entrance you unlock the gambling card to allow you entrance into the boat
•Play roulette, BlackJack and liars dice in serval new locations throughout the map
•Enter tournaments with other players to win large sums of cash and gold
•Learn to cheat at poker to get the upper hand by pressing the right buttons at the right time but if you fail it will be viable to every player that is looking at you that you cheated, which allows them to challenge you to a duel
•Duels are reliant on your reaction time, first person to shoot is the first person to kill and they win, taking other persons money and leaving the poker game
•In the dark and sleazy parts of the west play Russian roulette with up to six different players. One gun, one bullet, six people. The gun will be passed from person to person until one person remains who will be crowned the winner and shall take all the money
•Place bets on horses races or rig them for your own gain but be careful, if you're caught you will be sent to a duel
•Buy new gambler gun themes and outfits
THE GUNSLINGER: While making money legally can be nice, sometimes you just wanna rob a few unlucky bastards Located in ambarino you can find a gang who's down on their luck and could use a new member to get them back on their feet, your first act as a member buying a new hideout
•Play a set of gang story missions as you track down the traitor who sold out the gang to the Pinkertons and exact your revenge
•Rob banks in a fashion similar to a bounty board with only minor scripting such as police uniforms you can steal to pretend to be police officers and you can either go in quietly or guns blazing. Each mission will reward the player with both gold and money for each time they complete it
•Betray your fellow members at the end of robberies to increased the gold and money you earn, if you want to risk losing some of your gold and money if they kill you
•Rob heavily armored trains for high rewards of money and gold
•Rob special carriages for high cash rewards
•Steal wagons full of expensive items and sell it to the highest bidder
•Rob store owners but if you do they won't serve you for a whole day and if you kill them it'll take three days for them to respawn for you
•Rob high profile gambling matches on gambling boats
•Buy new gunslinger gun themes and outfits
PLACES OF RESIDENCE: This may just be a personal thing but I kinda want a house in Red Dead online instead of just sleeping in the middle of the woods so here are my ideas for homes
Underground houses -Can be placed anywhere in the map -The aboveground part looks like the dirt house you can find -There is a stove with a pot of stew that you can use to make stews -You can change the theme and the look of the house -You can grow mint, oregano and thyme in small pots
Paddle boat -Can be placed anywhere in the main water areas -You can get free cigars and alcohol on the boat -You can place gambling tables on the boat
NEW GAMES/SERIES: I don't usually play these but since a few people do I thought I'd spitball some ideas
Battleships: Fight against other teams in warships, last team standing wins
•The boats are manned by 4 players, one driver who controls the boat, another who repairs it by using a hammer, one guy who controls a muzzle loading cannon that does massive damage but is slow to reload and someone who controls a Gatling gun that does low damage and fires fast
Civil war battles: Fight in battles between the union and the confederacy
•Players defend locations from other plays, the confederacy protects the Manor, Saint denis and Rhodes while the union protects van horn, Blackwater, strawberry, and valentine
•Player that are attacking must capture the location and hold it until the reinforcements arrive -You only have one life and if the defenders kill all the reinforcements and the attackers they win
•Confederates are armed with Springfield rifles and shotguns with their sidearm being a lemat revolver while the union has Litchfield repeaters and Springfield rifles with a navy being their sidearm
NEW FORMS OF TRANSPORTATION: I know that from the last time I did one of these nearly no one wanted a car so don't worry I won't ask for a car and the boats weren't my idea they were someone else's but I forgot who asked for them
•You can buy every kind of carriage that you can find people riding in the game
•When you drive any owned wagon such as the hunting wagon into a stable you can customize it, making it look more tidy, putting a crips trading company logo on the sides or just chancing the kind of wood that its made of
•upgrades for wagons such a the bounty and hunting wagon that adds a weapon box under the seats that allows you to change weapons while on the wagon and iron wheels that increases the speed and handling of the wagon
•Canoe -Small one man boat -Can hold one large fish in storage
•Rowboat -Medium sized two man boat -Has a crate of beer in it that can be drunk -Can hold three large fish
•Steamboat -Large sized boat four man boat -Has a crate of beer and a small stove where you can make stew and craft -Can hold six large fish -Can have a revolver cannon equipped on it
NEW GUNS AND WEAPONS: While the guns in the game is pretty well balanced and useful, new guns are a nice addition to the game
•Colt Walker, In game name, Walker Revolver: First produced in 1847, this was one of if not the most powerful percussion revolver ever made. Firing six .44 caliber round balls and at max 60 grains of black powder, it was comparable to a 1861 Springfield carbine in its firing power though due to poor metallurgy at the time it had problems of exploding after too long of use. Due to it's high damage, range and accuracy this would be a good sidearm for a sniper main or someone with paint it black -Does the same amount of damage as a BAR (Bolt action rifle) -Has the best range and accuracy of any sidearm -Has the slowest fire rate out of any sidearm -has the slowest reload speed (character inserts a paper cartridge, rams it down, then places a percussion cap on the nipple) -Condition lowers faster than any other weapon
•Girardoni air rifle, in game name, Girardoni rifle: Produced from 1780 to 1815 it was a air powered rifle that fired a .46 caliber round ball and had a range of 125 to 150 yards. The gun would use it's own round ball ammunition and you could hold 100 bullets. The gun would be another option for a silent weapon like a bow if you wanted to be stealthy. -Has the same range and accuracy as a BAR -Holds twenty rounds -Is nearly silent -Has the same fire rate as a Lancaster repeater -Does less damage then a bow
DERRINGERS: These will be a new kind of gun in the game, being so small that you can carry them even while you're carrying two pistols. They will be carried in the throwables and equipment slots once you buy two of the same derringers. While weak and having poor range, they have a damage multiplier that gets to the point where if you're face to face with the person you're firing at any body shot will instakill them
•Remington model 95, in game name, double shot derringer: This small pistol is a break action two shot over-under pistol. This cheap derringer is likely the first one you'd buy -Has one of the fastest fire rates put of any derringer -Does moderate damage, slightly less than a cattleman -Has the fastest reload speed out of any derringer
•Colt cloverleaf revolver, in game name, cloverleaf derringer: This four shot revolving derringer is, for a small pistol like this, a very high damage output and decent ammo capacity and would fit well for a player who is a good shot to use the high damage derringer in combat -Has the highest damage out of any derringer, slightly less than a Schofield -Has decent accuracy compared to other derringers -Has a decently slow reload speed -Can be upgraded to have a fifth cylinder
•Colt new line, in game name, pocket cattleman: This gun is one of the most balanced derringer in the game, firing 7-shots in a break-action revolver. It does slightly less damage then the double shot derringer and has the same fire rate as a cloverleaf -Has the highest ammo capacity of any derringer with 7-shots -Has the same fire rate as the cloverleaf -Has the second fastest reload speed out of any revolver
•Allen and wheelock Pepperbox revolver, in game name, pepperbox derringer: Pepperbox revolvers were quite popular from the mid 1830 to at most early 1860 when they were phased out by true revolver but that doesn't mean that these small quick firing guns are gonna go to waste -Has the fastest fire rate out of any derringer -Has the slowest reload speed out of any derringer -Has the worst range and accuracy out of any derringer
•Schwarzlose model 1898, in game name, 1898 pistol: This would just be a 1899 pistol with a new design based off the schwarzlose pistol. It would fill the same role of the 1899 pistol
•1874 sharps rifle, in game name, Buffalo rifle: This would be a import of the same gun from red dead redemption, being a high power, accurate and long range rifle and would serve the same purpose of the original version from rdr1 -Has slightly higher damage then the elephant rifle -Has better accuracy and range then the Springfield rifle -Has the same reload speed as the rolling block rifle
•All the melee weapons from the story: Import than to the online and have the gypsy woman sell them
CLOTHING: Import all the special hats from the story, besides John and Arthur's hats
Off the top of my heads that all I have, if you have any ideas of questions from me ask them in the comments. Thank you all for reading

[GIVEAWAY] Over 150 PC keys!

Hi everyone!
I’ve got a few Humble Bundle keys that have been rotting in my account for too long. Some keys are several years old! I already have over 700 Steam games I’m never going to play, so I thought I’d give them to a group of people that could use them more than I would. Plus it’s the holidays, so it’s the right season for giving!
As far as I am aware, all of these keys are for STEAM in the UNITED STATES. The only exception that I saw when sifting through my keys was one for UPlay.
This is the most important part, and the part you’re all wondering- How to enter, and what games are up for grabs!
The games can be found at the end of this post.
To enter, comment a NEW PARENT THREAD listing at LEAST your TOP FIVE games, and at MOST your TOP TEN you’d like from the list below, listing the games you’d like the most first.
I cannot stress the new parent thread part enough; If you do not post a new thread on this post, the request WILL NOT BE COUNTED and you WILL NOT BE ENTERED. If you post your games in someone else’s thread, you WILL NOT BE ENTERED. You have been warned.
You will need to meet all requirements listed by the subreddit to enter.
Please be kind to myself and everyone entering.
Please be patient with your wins and drawings. I’m one guy who has a job and family obligations, so it might take multiple days for me to draw names and send out all of the keys
This giveaway will run from the post date ((Roughly December 20th around 9:00 PM-ish PST / GMT -8)) to 11:59 PM PST (GMT -8) on 12/27/2019. I would love to do it before Christmas, but I’m letting the Yogscast Jingle Jam runs its course first to maximise the amount of keys in the giveaway, and to allow as many people to enter as possible.
Starting 12 AM PST on 12/28/2019 no more entries will be counted.
When the cut off has been reached, I will start to pull names. To do so, I will add ?sort=random to the URL of the thread and give the first response that pulls up their top game. If that game has been claimed, I will give them the next game on their list, and I will repeat until I have no more keys. I will pull a new set of random comments for each key. I would use something like Reddit Raffler, but I can’t pull just parent comments and I can only pull a maximum of 25 comments per pull. Besides, this will be MUCH easier than my previous idea of putting every single entrant into an Excel Sheet and pulling wins from there.
In the case that all of the games the person requested have been awarded already, I will PM the person in question asking them to select any game from the pool still available. This post will be updated as I award games so the list should be current with what games are still available. They will have 45 minutes from the time I message them to respond. If they do not respond, I will continue drawing names and awarding games without sending a key.
However, they can still message me at ANY TIME after that to claim a game, provided there are still keys, but I will not be reserving their spot in the queue anymore.
You will win ONE (1) game, regardless of how many are left or how many are on your list.
That should be everything you need to know! So comment at least your top five, or at most top ten games you’d like in a unique thread on this post! And because why not, tell me either about a gift you gave someone else this year, or about a gift someone else got you!
EDIT 12/28/19 1:20 AM PST- i have begun drawing names. The current winners are listed below. I am going to sleep since it's late and will resume drawing keys tomorrow.
EDIT 12/28/19 12:47 PM PST - Working on more wins. Updated the list below.
EDIT 12/28/19 1:16 PM - More winners added. Will update every 10 draws or so.
EDIT 12/28/19 1:40 PM PST - More winners added. Taking a break for about an hour or so, will resume draws after.
EDIT 12/28/19 5:40 PM - All winners have been drawn. I found a few keys that I, evidently, never had at any point. I apologize to those who entered for those keys. Giveaway is completed.
Post-end edit, 12/28/19 6:26 PM PST - I have been informed by one of you guys that the reason several games vanished from my Humble list was due them running out of keys, not being able to get more, and removing them entirely off of peoples list of keys without telling them. Shady as hell and I do not approve, but short of buying keys myself there is nothing I can do, and I can't afford to buy 10-ish keys again. I am sorry for whoever wanted those games.

The gambling challenges 8, 9 and 10 are stupidly unfair and need to be patched to something fairer.

I made a change.org petition, because this is how strongly I feel about the level of bullshit these 3 tasks expect us to pull, just to have a chance at getting 100%. I don’t have much time each week to play games, I play red dead redemption 2 because it’s a beautiful and genuinely relaxing game. Likewise, I enjoyed the slow trot the journey has been towards the 100% achievement.
However, when I came across the gambler challenges (I’m at 96% completion),I realised I will not be getting the 100% in this century, its stupidly improbable, and I really would like this to be changed.
I don’t think it’s fair to have people like me locked out of certain achievements because we don’t have 16 hours a day to grind on computer game achievements.

Destiny 2 Year 2: Revenge or Redemption?

Now that Year 2 of Destiny 2 is coming to a close, I found myself thinking about the overall narrative we got with Forsaken. With Cayde's death at the forefront, we had no difficulty in believing Bungie when they told us that Forsaken is a story of revenge. Now that we're approaching year 3, I don't think that's the case any longer.
Below are my thoughts on Forsaken as a whole: Enjoy!
A Tale of Four Guns
This is a tale of four guns. Four weapons that embodied the philosophies of their wielders. Four beings who would forever leave their mark on our journey as Guardians. The first, a final “bluff” from a Gambler whose broken memories offered a dubious pledge of hope against a sea of despair. The second, a Blazing War Cry whose flames incinerated a Fallen Hero, now a Mournful Tyrant. The third, a Rose whose petals had wilted before the lies of Sorrow’s song. The fourth, a Child of Light and Shadow; one whose heart embraced the bitterness of the Night without forgetting the promise of the Morning. Four beings, four guns, one Destiny.
The Gambler’s “Bluff”: In the case of the first, this gun was born from the united efforts of two friends, one whose duties in the Tower held him back from his love of the wild, while the other was a steady hand whose days of smuggling were long behind him. At least, on the days when he could remember his time as a smuggler…
The significance of this gun however, ran far deeper than the habits of its owner would suggest. As an Exo Guardian, Cayde 6 was unique amongst his comrades, insofar that his memories of life before being chosen by the Traveler were not wholly erased. While they were no longer coherent or fully comprehensible, Cayde would often find himself reminiscing about his “Queen,” as he was fond of calling her, as well as the child she bore him. Whether they were truly real or not he could never know, but in the end it did not matter. For “when friends fall, when brothers fade,” when Cayde would lose the th”ings that matter,” ‘twas the memory of his Queen and his Ace that reminded him of the man he was meant to be, of the man he could be. Hence, with every pull of the trigger, with every bullet he set flying through the hearts of his enemies, Cayde reminded himself “of the promise of a simpler life, and true, pure love.”
Until that fateful September day, after calling in our support to assist him and our mutual friend, Petra Venj in restoring order to the infamous Prison of Elders, Cayde 6 would meet his end. Having valiantly (and perhaps recklessly) fended off hordes of Scorn abominations on his own, Cayde was ultimately overwhelmed by their numbers. Having disposed of his Ghost Sundance, the Scorn Barons had their way with the now-mortal Cayde 6 until Uldren Sov, driven mad by his obsession for his Sister, and goaded on by his hatred of Guardians, murdered our Friend with his own gun.
From this day onward, the Ace of Spades would not only signify Cayde’s hope for a better future, but also our lust for vengeance, as we took justice into our own hands and laid waste to the monsters who had slaughtered our brother in arms. Having transformed the Tangled Shore into a murderous graveyard, we found Uldren Sov, now weakened by the wiles of Riven, and were confronted with one, final question: “Do you know what side you’re on?”
What side indeed. We, the slayer of Oryx and Crota, the Young Wolf who regained their light in the Shadows of the Red Legion, the Traveler’s Chosen who helped foster in a new Golden Age, would we continue to be a beacon of hope for our brethren, our would we shirk our calling, and embrace the hateful anthems of the Dark?
Whatever our choice, Cayde’s death would leave a mark on our souls that could never be effaced. Even after repairing the Ace of Spades with the help of Banshee 44, and even as we were, in a way, distracted by our efforts to defend the Dreaming City and to protect the legacies of the Black armory, we were no longer ourselves. A part of us had died with Cayde, down there in the wretched caverns of that Prison. The part that had learned to enjoy the thrills of the moment as we worked with Cayde to establish a foothold on the Dreadnought. The part that learned the importance of having fun with our comrades during the Festival of the Lost and the Dawning. The part that had relearned the value of laughter and of friendship, even when all other lights had gone out.
Until one day, while following a lead given to us by a Man with No Name, a journey down Sorrow’s road was soon changed into an encounter with living legends and final words.
A Blazing War cry: Our plan had originally been to prevent the manufacture of new Weapons of Sorrow at the hands of the Hive. This encounter, however, would have been our last, were it not for the sudden appearance of the Last Word, a weapon whose Gun-slinging wielder has proven himself the bane of all who sought to learn the ways of the Darkness too eagerly. Through a series of private letters, this Renegade, known as Shin Malphur, confronted us over our deeds in the Tangled Shore, challenging us to discern whether Cayde’s death was really the catalyst of our rage, or if it had merely been the excuse we needed to justify our hatred for a world that was not ours, and a life we had never asked for.
In contrast, we were also reminded of our higher ideals, of the devotion to Humanity that inspired us to tear out the heart of the Black Garden, the Courage that emboldened us to descend the Hellmouth and into Crota’s throne world, the self-sacrifice that led us to conquer Oryx without claiming his throne, and the countless deaths we would gladly endure for the sake of our loved ones, even as imperial legions spread their crimson malice across our system. Hence, with the full truth of our triumphs and shortcomings laid bare, our gray-tinged hands were entrusted with the Flame of Dwindler’s Ridge, the Last Word, “until the last flame dies and all other words have been spoken.”
The Joker, seeing that we had returned with a Weapon of Light rather than a Weapon of Sorrow, was quick to instill the seeds of doubt regarding the Man with the Golden Gun. How could we be sure that Shin wouldn’t deal with us in the same way as he had with others who strayed too far down Sorrow’s Road? What made us so special that we could get away with playing both sides?
As fate would have it, we would soon no longer be able to do so. At least, not when it came to our dealings with the Drifter and the Vanguard. In the months following Cayde’s death, many in the City grew uncertain as to whether their government would remain stable. What’s more, the Vanguard’s failure to avenge their fallen comrade caused many Guardians to question the integrity of its surviving members, Ikora Rey and Commander Zavala. While Ikora had originally hoped to accompany us in our quest for vengeance, Zavala, still burdened by his failures during the Red War, and fearing the loss of more friends at the hands of Uldren, forbade any Guardian incursions into the Tangled Shore.
In addition, recent investigations conducted by the Hidden, a Guardian spy network headed by Ikora, led some Guardians to believe that the Drifter’s “Gambit” was a potential spawning ground for the Shadows of Yor. This group of Guardians sought to wield the powers of the Darkness by following in the hated footsteps of one Dredgen Yor, a mass murderer whose atrocities were only halted when he came face to face with Shin and his Golden Gun. Many of the more enthusiastic participants in Gambit were even taking the name of Dredgen as a title of Honor!
With the Last Safe City plunged into a crisis of leadership and identity, we ourselves would become a living microcosm of the surrounding chaos when our wise-cracking Drifter friend gave us an ultimatum: Defy the Vanguard and take our place alongside Drifter in his bid for ‘salvation,’ or remain faithful to the Vanguard and to our pledge to safeguard Humanity. Whatever side we chose, this confrontation would prove vital in our understanding both of ourselves and our purpose as Guardians. Are we to serve ‘till our final death as heralds of the Light, using its Logic of the Bomb to procure the survival of Life, even as existence itself sought to constrain us by the laws of entropy? Was it not better for us to accept our cosmic frivolity and maintain our own hold on existence?
Such questions stood foremost in our minds as we continued our exploits throughout Sol. Sometime later, while on patrol amongst the dead remains of Europe, we found ourselves confronted by another shadow of our past, a shadow that manifested itself in the form of a third gun, a third man who would once again set our feet upon the Hated Path: Dredgen Yor
A Rose with No Petals: Though he was mostly remembered for his onslaughts which left countless victims in his wake, Yor’s story was not always that of a man driven mad by the wiles of the Dark. Indeed, he had once been a noble man; a champion of the Light; a Titan by the name of Rezyl Azzir. His victories in the Crucible would inspire both his fellow guardians and the citizens of the City while his triumphs on the battlefield secured the realization of those same hopes and aspirations. Alas, this same heroism and devotion would soon become the father of innumerable wails of sorrow and despair.
Having defeated a swarm of Hive on Luna, Rezzyl placed some of his opponent’s skeletal remains as a form of decoration on his gun, fondly named “Rose.” While it may have seemed a strange but harmless gesture at the time, these bones would soon prove to be far more than a dead memento. No, the bones were alive, and they whispered.
As time rolled on, Azzir’s countless victories on behalf of the city soon grew burdensome, and the cheers of the crowd no longer sated his thirst for glory. But the whispers, they promised something more. As the Sun set upon the city that he spent so many years protecting, the man succumbed to the dreaded murmurs. And their words, were death. Death to all who would presume to call on the name of Hope. For nothing dies like hope…
From henceforth, the Beacon of Light was changed into a Herald of Darkness. What once shown in the light of Day now wandered through the shapeless hollows of the Night, leaving naught but death and lamentation in his hateful wake. And the Rose, the once noble weapon which had wrought so many victories through the Traveler’s might, was now a wilted stem. Its only ornament, its own tearful thorns.
Yor’s murderous rampage would continue through the years and beyond following his murder of the infamous Gunslinger Jaren Ward. Until Shin Malphur, Ward’s son both through love and by the Light, wielded his third father’s weapon and brought an end to those spiteful words which had sought to drown out the Song of the Light.
Or so, we had been told…
As the Drifter had warned, our Renegade friend soon proved to be more than what he had originally let on, though this confession would prove far more shocking than anything that we or the Joker could have anticipated. It was indeed true that Azzir had allowed himself to be consumed by the Darkness, and that the once-brightest of our lights had become a heartless murderer. But this was only one part of the tale, one that failed to explain that while Yor was no longer the hero that the City and its people desired, he had truly become something more:
The devil we needed.
It was not mere vanity and moral lethargy that had led Rezyl down Sorrow’s Road, it was the recognition, nay, the conviction that Light was not enough. If humanity was to survive and reclaim its destiny amongst the stars, it must also embrace the ways of the Dark. With too much Light, we would grow blind in our own conceit; but by wielding the Darkness, by learning to control its hunger, perhaps Humanity could find a way to traverse this valley of tears we call Sol, with all the moral ambiguities and fields of gray that mark the boundary between Light and Dark.
Sadly, for Rezyl, the task proved too great, he could no longer weather the storm that raged within his soul. Thus, he did what he felt was the last good thing he could do; use his newfound darkness to compel another to bring silence to Sorrow’s anthem. Hence, Yor’s reign of terror; hence, the murder of Jaren Ward; hence the final showdown at Dwindler’s Ridge; hence, to our shock, Malphur’s founding of the Shadows of Yor and his taking the name of Dredgen Vale. So that Guardians might learn what Yor could not: how to walk that thin line between Light and Dark.
After receiving the truth from our hidden Renegade Friend, we proceeded with our journey in wielding these two hand cannons, one born of Light, the other of Sorrow. We would set out to forge a new path, one that would employ the powers of the Dark without being overcome by it, to bear the cold, heartless logic of the sword while bending it into submission before the logic of the Bomb, the way of Life and Self-sacrifice.
Days turned into weeks, into months, to nearly a year since Cayde’s death. The wounds of loss and loneliness in his absence had never truly healed. In spite of this, whether through newfound purpose or through fear at the thought of our final death, we strove onward, fighting, surviving, hoping against hope that things would ultimately turn out fine. Then came another voice, one that promised relief from the weariness that consumed us whilst continuing our fight to protect humanity. A way that shunned the dichotomy between Light and Dark and seeks only that which brings joy to the heart and strength to one’s grip. “Why continue with these petty games?” The gluttonous voice bellowed. Why not reject both the Sword and the Bomb? Why not embrace the path of Opulence?
With his usurper Dominus Gaul defeated in the shadow of a living Traveler, the ruler of the Cabal Empire, Calus, was quick to make his presence known within the boundaries of our system. Having proven our worth to his Graciousness by defeating a mechanical impression, we were blessed with the Emperor’s favor, and inebriated with his ocean of riches which bore the promise to make us “grow fat from strength.” While the next few months would see the start of a tenuous friendship, our visits to the Leviathan would soon come to a sudden halt.
As Sol found itself ravaged by the two-fold chaos of the Scorn and the Taken, Calus and his entourage would fall seemingly comatose. A few teams of guardians would continue to test themselves against the might of his Loyalists, but aside from this, there was no sign of our Royal beneficiary. Until one summer’s day, over a year since our last visit, a message from His Majesty arrived via a hacked service frame, inviting us to see what the Emperor had prepared for his favorite Guardian.
What had once been a prison for the exiled ruler had been transformed into a grand maze of both challenge and reward. Upon exceeding once more the high expectation of our royal host, and wielding a Chalice bestowed on us by the Great Emperor himself, we drank eagerly and heavily upon his renewed bounty, growing fat in both strength and power as tokens and vestiges of an older time were restored to us, polished and renewed according to the Emperor’s “modest tastes.”
Through all this, Calus would explain in greater detail his time in exile following Gaul’s betrayal, as well as his encounter with the “Truth of the Universe.” A truth which sought the end of all things and had both the power and will to bring about the reality thereof. For most people, such knowledge would inspire sentiments of misery and despair. But not so with Calus. Not so.
Indeed, for the Cabal Emperor, such a revelation was no cause for anguish, but for revelry and celebration. If indeed the end of days had come, then there was no greater task, no nobler pursuit than to announce the frivolity of our wars, and to embrace the glories of the present moment: Life is fleeting; waste not your time on fears of tomorrow or hopes for a better future. Why divide yourselves under the banners of war when you can be united as brothers in my loving embrace? Why pillage and destroy with your swords and your bombs when you can live in the ocean of my divine benevolence?
Why indeed. Shortly after our introduction to the Emperor’s Menagerie, a choice would once more be demanded of us. For Calus had officially announced the designs he had in store for our future: A seat at the Emperor’s right hand at the End of Days, as his Shadow of Shadows. In his eyes, we would be his faithful herald, proclaiming the Gospel of Death to the Universe. We would become that final, resounding witness to that frivolity which would unite the cosmos in peace under the banner of Opulence.
With this most gracious offer laid before us, we would also find ourselves face-to-face with one final lesson, one last encounter with a friend forever distant, yet constantly present to us in times of need. This friend would gift us with a fourth and final gun, one that held within itself the deepest of shadows, and would soon hold the brightest of lights.
While readying ourselves for yet another day of glory in the Crucible and/or another round of patrol in the Dreaming City, Shin alerted us to the arrival of a package from him to us. After a hop, skip and a jump across the system, we finally managed upon our latest gift, only to find ourselves repulsed at the sight of it. For our Renegade friend had entrusted us with the very weapon that had spawned a mournful abyss with every pull of the trigger: Thorn.
A Child of Light and Shadow: It is true that we were no strangers to this gun. Even in the days before the Red War, we had tried our luck with replicas of the hated weapon. Those however, were mere replicas, lookalikes that had been cleansed of their corruption under the weight of our Light. But this, this was the Weapon of Sorrow. The once-dauntless victor of the Crucible now a blood-stained cantor whose tainted notes pierced its hearers with irreparable wounds.
In that moment, we couldn’t bear to even hold it. For it not only held the memory of Yor’s hatred, the feel of its grip bore a sickly semblance to that cursed moment when Gaul stripped us of our Light, and left us at the edge of extinction. And yet, in those moments of doubt and indecision, we had one certainty:
The taint. Must. Die.
Enraged at the thought of all the lives felled through Sorrow’s aim, we unleashed our Light and our righteous fury throughout the system, letting it inebriate our every shot, every strike, every step. In a word, every cell of our being, be it from the soil of Mother Earth, from the singularity between Light and Dark during the Collapse, or from the cold, secretive hardware of Clovis Bray, all was set ablaze. And as the Cosmos grew brighter in our steps, the shadows and the whispers finally began to fade. The thorns had been trimmed, the poison culled, and in our hands lay once more a Rose whose previous owner had once shone bright in the Joy of the Morning.
Though the whispers had grown silent, our hearts were still troubled. Restoring Rose was not enough; something more had to be done. After spending some time in quiet reflection (for it seems that even the “strong, silent type” are subject to having too much noise in their heads…), it finally hit us. Thorn was defined by its owner’s selfishness and ill-intent. Perhaps now, we could make it an emblem for compassion and self-sacrifice, for having the courage to do what is right, no matter the cost, either to ourselves or to our reputation. Perhaps, we could forge our own path, one that would lead to our best selves and to a better tomorrow…
While adopting the Logic of the Sword was necessary to confront Oryx in his throne world, it did not strike the final blow. We destroyed the Taken King not through the cutting edge of a blade but through the undying resolve of a Light that could never be subdued. Just as life was born from the chaotic beginnings of the Universe, so now, life would be restored by the clash of our fists, the blaze of our cannons, and the raw potential of our minds and our hearts.
And so, our familiarity with the Darkness coupled with our determination to stand for the Light to create a new weapon, neither of Sorrow nor of Light as were Thorn and the Last Word, but something entirely different. A fourth and final gun that could endure the horrors of the Night without forgetting the Promise of the Morning: A Weapon of Hope,
Lumina.
At long last, our journey had come full circle. A tale of four guns, the testimony of four beings: A Hopeful Gambler, a Tenebrous Renegade, a Mournful Tyrant, and a Child who was reborn in the Light, weighed down by the sorrows of death, and reforged in the coming of the Dawn. What had begun as a quest for vengeance was now a journey of redemption. Our hunt to reclaim the Ace of Spades was soon changed into a race to reclaim ourselves. For a time, we had lost our way, weary of a life that had robbed us of our friend and our hope. Yet even then, we were not alone.
For in the midst of our quest for blood, the Traveler spoke to us once more. The Gardener stood mindful of her wilting blossom, speaking through the voices of the past to remind us that the qualities by which life is worth living, ultimately lead to death, and from death, to the renewal of all life, until the entire cosmos is set ablaze. In gifting us with the Last Word, Shin reminded us that justice means to fight in order to correct what is wrong, not to get payback for being wronged. By wielding Thorn, we realized that with brighter lights come deeper shadows, and in order to survive the terrors that lie ahead, we must be ready to dance with the Dark, to defeat the Dark. Finally, when we purged Thorn of its pestilence, and enhanced the newly restored Rose with our own Light, we finally had an answer to Uldren’s question:
We stand with the Light. We are not afraid to face our foes in the midst of the Deep, nor shall we allow ourselves to drown therein. We stand on the side of Hope, for we will keep on fighting, dying, failing, and beginning again so that others might live. So that others may have the chance to sing their life-songs in the light of a new day, even if we never live to see it.
Even Cayde recognized this as he reminisced over the friends he had lost, and how this loss of both friends and meaning tore away at his soul even in the first moments of his rebirth as a Guardian. Despite everything, we can never be certain whether Light equals right, if the battles we wage are worth fighting, or even if there is any meaning to our lives at all.
Yet, when we consider the alternatives, the paths laid before us by Calus, the Drifter and Yor, we realize just how lonely those ways really are. For they promise nothing than what their names imply: A rejection of honor, loss of concern for the good of others, and worse, the desire to plunge all into the eternal abyss.
Cayde could have chosen the way of despair, yet he chose to keep faith in the memory of his wife and his son, as well as his duty to become the best version of himself. Looking back, his final letters pointed us towards this path we call Hope. For we can never know for certain what lies ahead. All things may prove to be vanity, or perhaps we will learn that life is but a never-ending struggle for survival and dominance.
And yet, if it is true that nothing really ends, then it is not only the night that endures, but what comes after the night. In the end, it may be that life was never just a game. And maybe, just maybe,
There is still meaning in our Roar…

Sub Update

Howdy, folks. Sorry for not giving you an update for a while; I’m still working towards 100% right now. (Damn you Gambler challenge!)
I just wanted to go over a few things relating to the sub and ask you guys what you want to see here going forward.
#1. This subreddit does not require spoiler tags. Post titles may contain spoilers. If you have not finished the game, subscribe at your own risk.
#2. I’m going to copy and paste this into every future stickied post and into a bot for removed posts:
**
Please use Google before posting on this sub
Google is better than Reddit search for searching on Reddit. Somebody has probably found and posted about whatever you were planning on posting about. If what you’re asking about isn’t on Google, then it is probably appropriate for this subreddit.
Many of the “mysteries” in Red Dead Redemption 2 are outlined in the Official Strategy Guide. You can purchase the guide through the RDR2 app or on Rockstar’s website, or you can find a PDF somewhere online. You can also visit RDR2map.com for an interactive map of all the points of interest, special collectables, treasures, etc.
**
#3. Here is a list of types of posts the moderators remove:
  • “Found this…” – a lot of posts are just pictures of points of interest, cheat codes, or dreamcatchers. If the game identifies it for you, there is a pretty good chance the internet already knows about it.
  • Questions not related to any “mysteries” – Some people will posts questions like, “Where can I find the snowy egret?” Entering this question into the search engine of your choice will yield much better and faster results.
  • Reposts or multiple posts about the same topic – If you start a thread about something, and later take more pictures or videos, post those links in your original thread instead of making a new post.
  • Memes and Shitposts – Sorry, but there are plenty of other subreddits to post your Lenny photoshops.
  • Answers from Rockstar Support – Rockstar Support is not a reliable source of information regarding what is or is not in the game. Usually they are just outsourced workers with no “insider” information.
  • Glitches/Bugs – Some posts about glitches related to “mysterious” spots, or “unreachable” areas have remained up, but this sub shouldn’t feature too many “secrets” which, to most, are obvious glitches. We know you can get into some buildings with glitches, we know you can get to Guarma… only tell us about it if you find something new.
  • “Anybody see/hear this” (but with no video) – It’s 2019. RDR2 is only available on 2 different consoles. Those two consoles both have recording capabilities (including the ability to retroactively record the last [x] minutes of gameplay). If you are asking a question about a specific sound, or “a weird thing you saw,” but are too lazy to post a video… your question will be removed. I understand it is not that easy to get console footage into a postable format, but at the very least you should be able to film your TV screen with your smartphone and upload it like that. That isn’t the recommended way to do it, but if you’re going to do it that way at least take a few seconds to properly frame the screen.
  • “DAE think IKZ isn’t in the game” – Luckily, IKZ posts have tapered off, but nobody cares if your opinion is just that she is not in the game or she has already been found. Some people want to keep looking for her. Just let them do it.
  • Pictures of the pit of bodies in Tall Trees – This is still the most reposted screenshot on this sub. I think it’s because there isn’t a good way to Google it. Well, if you’re wondering, it’s most likely the missing Blackwater Athletics team, and it was most likely the Skinner Brothers. There are also frequently posts about scenes of crashed wagons with dead occupants covered in arrows. That is also the work of the Skinner Brothers.
#4. Monthly updates.
I’m going to (hopefully) post a new update thread once a month. I’ll link the top 3-5 posts from the previous month and maybe a staff pick just for fun. I’ll copy and paste (#2) into each update to potentially filter out some of the redundant posts.
Here are the top 3 posts of 2019 so far:
  1. Is the saloon girl in Van Horn the missing princess, or just dressed like her?
  2. Drastic weather changes at the Indian Burial Ground.
  3. Further investigation into the Old World Scripts
Staff Pick: Is Josiah Blackwater in any way related to the crazy drunk at the Valentine Saloon?
*Feel free to link your favorite threads in the comment section of this thread
#5 Should we allow posts about DLC?
There have been a lot of posts about the masks from Undead Nightmare, venturing into Mexico, certain lines of dialogue, referenced characters, etc. Should we allow those posts? Reposts about the already found masks will keep getting removed, but if somebody thinks they have a new hint towards future DLC, I wouldn’t want to remove it automatically. I guess we’ll play that one by ear.
#6 Please leave any comments or suggestions for this sub here

Do you want to hear the gut-wrenching story of a completionist's worst nightmare?

Do you want to hear the gut-wrenching story of a completionist's worst nightmare?
Alright, so I’m going to try to keep this as brief as possible, but TL:DR - I was so effing close to getting a platinum trophy I could taste it, when my PS4 had a spontaneous factory reset making me lose EVERYTHING. The moral of this story: BACK UP YOUR SAVE FILES FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY.
For a crapload more context than necessary, you should know I’m a mega-completionist who was brought to the 21st gaming century after my brother (u/FullMetalT-Shirt) bought me Final Fantasy XV in 2016. I spent over a year doing absolutely everything I could in the base version of that game, because apparently, I’m an open world fanatic. After platinum-ing FFXV, I found a list of literally every. single. mission. you can do in that game, and went SO HARD finishing everything (A Menace Sleeps in Steyliff, Pitioss Ruins, the Adamantoise, etc.), my brother knew I needed to move onto a different game ASAP.
He then bought me The Witcher 3, after many of my misgivings - “Oh, I don’t know, I’m really doing the FFXV thing // I don’t know if I’ll be into that as much // it’s not the same as a FF game” yadda yadda yadda. Turns out “giving TW3 a shot” meant also platinum-ing after three separate playthroughs over the course of another year, and joining Tumblr again (for the first time in YEARS) to post a bunch of ridiculous memes about what suddenly and unequivocally became my favorite game of all time.
(For a look at some of the dumbest memes you’ll ever witness, check out https://salty-geralty.tumblr.com/tagged/my-witcher-stuff and/or my liveblog Twitter rants about The Witcher on Netflix @SaltyGeralty)
Fast forward through the bulk of my Witcher obsession, and once again, my brother gifts me with a little ol’ Christmas present by the name of Red Dead Redemption 2.
Thus began the most painstakingly ARDUOUS adventure in the entirety of my open world-loving life. The completionism required for some of my fave games ever, FFXV, TW3, Zelda: BOTW, can’t even come CLOSE to the level of perseverance this game required. I never played RDR, so here I thought I was just going to try my hand at being a simple gun-toting outlaw. Instead, I ended up investing a year and a half of my life on a soul-sucking voyage of triumph, defeat, and thankfully redemption in the eyes of the PS4 trophy gods.
Fair enough, the first six months of my RDR2 adventures were spent finishing up my third TW3 playthrough, so I didn’t really get serious until the beginning of Summer 2019. By January 2020, I had all but completed every single trophy in Story Mode except for the infamous Gold Rush.
Now, for those of your familiar with the RDR2 Story Mode trophies on the PS4, or those of you who would generally care to forget, please take a moment to reminisce about the following:
  • Eighteen bear attacks. EIGHT. TEEN. BEAR. ATTACKS.
  • F****** SPOONBILL PLUMES
  • ORCHIDS. Just. All of the orchids.
  • Gambler Challenge 9
  • Robins
  • Master Hunter Challenge 6
  • Moose spawns
  • Herbalist Challenge 9
I could go on, but I really don’t want to…
Either way, I managed to get everything done in Story Mode except for Gold Rush, and thankfully those trophies were saved to my PSN profile. When the nightmare event happened, I was already done with the Zoologist, Skin Deep, and Best in the West (100% completion) trophies. Had the nightmare event happened one month prior when I hadn’t gotten those trophies yet, I would have thrown my PS4 straight out of the nearest 5-story window.
When I began trying for the Gold Rush trophy, I only had about two or three gold medals to start with from my first playthrough. Over a period of about two months, I went back and ended up achieving 68 gold medals of the 70 gold medal requirement.
Let that sink in.
Sixty eight out of seventy.
S.I.X.T.Y. E.I.G.H.T. OUT OF S.E.V.E.N.T.Y.
TWO MEDALS LEFT TO GO.
I turned off my PS4 on a Friday 68/70 medals down, and booted it up again on a Tuesday in early February thinking it was really strange that “your PlayStation didn’t shut down properly” popped up on the home screen without my profile name in sight. It was even stranger when I had to re-do my language and time zone preferences. It was the strangest when I logged into my PSN profile, and was asked to designate this machine as my primary console.
At first, I thought I had turned on the wrong machine. That same exact weekend, my roommate had a hard drive crash on her own PS4, so I thought that maybe this was her corrupted machine that I was turning on, or my machine had been wiped accidentally when she thought it was hers. Turns out she hadn’t wiped her PS4 at all, and it was definitely sitting untouched at her ex’s apartment. My PS4 had somehow encountered a power error that exact same weekend, and was completely wiped due to a spontaneous factory reset. We think both of our machines were fried because of a faulty power cord, but to this day we really don’t know what happened.
To confirm that this was indeed my machine, I called PS4 customer service, and spoke with a tech who asked, “I’m seeing over 536 hours of playthrough on Red Dead Redemption 2, that’s definitely you, right?”
Devastation. Absolute and utter devastation. Not only was my save file not backed up on my PS+ account for RDR2, none of my saved videos, screenshots, or other save files from TW3, FFXV, Kingdom Hearts, FFX were backed up either. I LOST EVERYTHING.
So, in order to finish the Gold Rush trophy, not only did I have to get gold on all of the missions that I had already done, but I had to replay the entire game in order to unlock the ability to replay those missions anyway.
Because I was so upset over the loss of my save files, over the course of three more painstaking months, I pushed through another full playthrough in Story Mode, and managed to complete Gold Rush this past weekend. Finally, through all of that hardship, and with the help of my brother to complete a final online trophy, I was able to platinum last night:
Amen. Hallelujah. Arthur bless.
Please don’t talk to me about ever playing this game again. (However, please make sure to call me when RDR3 comes out. By then the Red Dead Depression might have worn off, but no promises.)
